They make dumb shit like 20” wheels, heated side view mirrors, 17 cup holders, power sun roofs, but you can’t include a petcock on the fucking radiator? Fuck you.

Re: WTF GM?

Bean counters, they also dont have a fuel pressure test port anymore because it's less manufacturing processes.

Re: WTF GM?

Onstar probably knows you made a mess in your garage. They're sending the anti-freeze Po-Po.

Re: WTF GM?

Overpriced Parts /

In My 93 and 94 Chevy g20 vans and My 2003 Astro Had the stupid plastic/composite radiators that would leak when they get real hot, Not bad just like a cup a coolant a week,

When weather was cool to be no leaks But soon as the dog days of summer came hairline cracks would fine spray in the engine compartment in different areas so I wouldn’t know where the leak was coming from just find drips under the vans in the driveway or parking lot after the van set for a while,

Every time took the vans to a shop and said there’s nothing wrong no leaks when pressure tested,

When Winter would come would be no leaks

The 93 radiator I replaced myself and it took me a long time to find the hairline crack

It happened on three different vehicles always was ended up crack or cracks

somewhere in the plastic/composite radiator body but always in a different spot,

My 03 Astro two years ago I just brought it to a radiator shop that was very reasonably priced, of course an hour later they called and they said they pressure tested and couldn't find any leaks I said replace the radiator anyway and then I didn’t find any spots in my driveway any more.

Fluid has is always been changed and proper coolant mix was always used, Them Chevy van Radiators are junk

Re: WTF GM?

Pushrod Fifty /

I had a trailblazer for a short time. It really sucked. I was lucky enough to get rid of it.

Re: WTF GM?

Ken you sound as if you were dealing with incompetant radiator people...i owned a radiator repair shop and replaceing the plastic ends was very common and pressure testing would show where the crack was ...being expanded from cold to hot finally had to make it crack.....very bad idea.

Re: WTF GM?

Stuff like this is what turned me into a Honda owner in the '90s.

Man, those were good cars back then.

They all make junk now though. Junk with bluetooth and backup cameras!

Thats why I love my mopeds. Personified, they are so loyal and willing to work if you just treat them good.

Like many things Wrong if you take it to a shop it never does it for them But in everyday use the problem comes out,

Very few shops are going to take your car out for a one hour commute but I am very good at describing the problem to a shop, better than the average person says it’s making this or that kind of noise ha ha.

if I was if I had a lift and was healthy I would do a lot more repairs,

I use to used to do 90% of my repairs back in the day I’ve even did head cc ing matching intakes basically built a few engines but can’t now even if I was healthy you need almost $200,000 diagnostic machine every year

Just replaced a Honda transmission cooler line on a 2007 Odyssey van. Totally rusted out. I'll take a Ford anyday.

Re: WTF GM?

Don,

That was kinda my point. Honda used to be something special. From 85-95 they were the most reliable cars I’ve ever seen. Literally, just change oil and put gas in them.

Now, everything sucks

Sorry you like fords though. They have been a line of lemons my entire life. And ugly to boot. Only exception being the F150s with the straight 6. I’d defend those for being usable work trucks.

I just bypassed Power steering cooler and hasn’t failed yet (edited)

Re: WTF GM?

I've never had a Ford EVER let me down. Even junkers I bought for a few hundred. Tough as nails. My concrete work F-100 lasted for over 400K miles, nearer 450K.

My Dad had a 59 Ford wagon that was a lemon until he has the engine head replaced. Then it was great.

I agree that any Ford except the Mustang and Crown Vic has the new ugly look since 2000 or so. But IMO unless it's a jaguar or Audi today, they all look trashy .

FWD ruined it for everyone. Give me the big mercury marquis or Lincoln anyday.

I now own two fantastic looking, fan tasticrunning Lincoln LSes.

Next Ford/Mercury/Lincoln car will probably be older than 1970 with AC and a convertible.

Re: WTF GM?

Ľ̷̝̽͒i̶̛̼͑͠ȁ̸̧̛̽m̵̻̟̯̀̅ ̷͎̙̽̊F̶̲̺͑̓ F /

Yup, Lincoln made great cars. My 78 Lincoln tow car is the most comfortable car ever, and the rwd with the 460 makes it really fun in the snow

Re: WTF GM?

If you count old fords then yeah.

My dad was a Ford man. From the 60-80s.

In the 90s (where my memories begin) every for he had was crap. He kept trying and kept getting garbage.

My uncle and I talked him into a Toyota truck. Now he only buys Toyota. Which, are good cars. Soulless, boring, also ugly. But they function reliably.

Back to the OP, my mom had a series of Berettas. She liked them. First (And only) time I ever used JB weld on a car was to seal a cracked radiator. I told her it wasn’t a proper repair but would probably last as long as she needed it to. It did.

That was my only encounter and it was GM. Just a bad design.

You’re retarded. I’ve seen several aerostar automatics shit the bed and 4.6 and 5.4 stripped plug holes cause they didn’t have shit for threads in their soft ass aluminum heads. Fords ain’t perfect, all manufacturers cut corners and build junk. Buy an old Toyota that was hidden from salt and shit weather. That’s engineering in it’s prime.

Re: WTF GM?

Punk, you're delusional.

I got 250K out of my FIRST Aerostar.

I got 244K out of my SECOND Aerostar(ZERO tranny probs,(even though I once towed a Chevy Corsica over the mountains 450 miles to my son-in-law), and I'm on my THIRD Aerostar(Zero tranny probs) with only 134K now.

It's our transfer vehicle from Ohio to FL 3 or 4 times a year, plus my daily driver.

No problems, other than the FIRST(1987) Aerostar had an overdrive hub blow, but got it fixed with the improved part.

Take yer `Toy-Motor' so-called truck and put 5000 lbs. of rock in the bed and drive it around. My F-250 hauls 5000 lbs. easily. 1988 model.

Re: WTF GM?

punkrock randy /

My dad owned several Aerostars in the 80’s and 90’s, other than being rwd they sucked. The Toyota engine I’m rebuilding had about 340,000 miles. My Passat has 325,000 and my Land Cruiser has about 255,000. Don’t talk to me about high mileage. And I still drive em all over the country.

My 2009 Honda Element rocks. 210k miles and has never had as much as a check engine light come on. Just basic maintenance items replaced. Honda still makes extremely reliable, well built cars compared to their “American” competition,

One of these days I’m going to get a car as new as a 2009 ha ha,

My 2000 Honda Odyssey Has recalls for airbag and ignition switch, no there is no parts yet available for the airbags when there is it’s going to be taking in,

I might just trade it in altogether (it probably only has one or two more years before something major goes on it) And get a mid size suv type vehicle.

I need to get something newer. I can’t work on cars much anymore even replacing maintenance components like brakes, Rotating tires, batteries, exhaust, shocks, front end parts Etc like I use to,

The newest car we got is 15 years old so working on old rusty stuff is way harder and it’s getting harder to find shops that want to work on old rusted vehicles

Something Clean That’s 4 or 5 years old with about 50 or 60,000 miles with all maintenance records on it would be great,

Re: WTF GM?

Yep! Best way to buy a used car,Ken. Trouble is, other than a Ford pick-up, or replacing my 05 Mustang, I see nothing recent I can stand the looks of other than like I said, A Jag or Audi.

Re: WTF GM?

Toyota for the win!

Re: WTF GM?

Moped Lar (OFMC) /

Ken, look for an Element. Any year is fine, it doesn’t matter. Everyone that I’ve met with an Element has gotten over 250k miles without any major work being done. We’ve even run into a couple of folks who had over 350k miles and still going strong. Gas mileage isn’t great at 20 mpg city and 24 mpg hwy, but what it lacks in fuel economy, it more than makes up with its reliability. Plenty of room for 2-3 peds with the seats folded up. Expect to pay a few grand for a good one.

Funny...…………...I've owned at least 3 4.6 Mercs and never stripped a thread...….LOL!

Of course, if people think they can torque em down hot like a cast iron head, I've got no help for em.

The 4.6 will pull that heavy Ford or Merc for way over 200K. The 5.4 runs great in the old Police cars the cops wish they had back, too.

Re: WTF GM?

5.4 was never in police cars, there was the 5.0 and 5.8 in the square body Crown vics, all the round body crown vics had the 4.6, even police editions, a very tough engine. All the cops I have talked to do miss the Crown for it's size, but love the new explorer, much faster, heavier, and most importantly, AWD.

Speaking of delusion, hello puppet. My Dodge 5.9 now has 260,000+ miles on it and still going strong. Not to bad for a gasoline motor. If PR Randy wanted to tow 5000 lbs. I'm sure he could find a modern more efficient vehicle than an antique ford. 1988 has come and gone. Most likely you have no business with a truck that large and never tow anything anyway.

There is one other possibility. Are you sure that is the original radiator and it has not been changed??

You dont get around much do ya keyboard mechanic. Yes ford 5.4 liter had issues with the fucking spark plugs blowing out the fucking heads while driving. I fixed one on an f150 truck that had already blown one out prior. Its so common that they make more than one repair kit for them. Delusional puppet.

Re: WTF GM?

Blaine- The artist formerly known as Plumber Crack "(OFMC)" /

5.4 F150’s blow all 3 threads out of the head. Not sure what they expected to happen. 5.4 triton dildo plugs just snap the dildo off in the head when you try to replace them. Not sure what they expected to happen there either.
