Re: Covid 19 stats

As Americans, we're raised to believe to the core that we're more free than anyone else on earth. It's the driving factor behind so much of the general public's philosophy in this country. When you realize that freedom isn't really for you, that being "free" in America is actually only for a select few, it is world shattering. Most can't or won't think through the information. It's easier to fit things into the narrative that everything is fine and we have it the best here, and it's even easier because that's how news is presented here anyway. It hurts to understand that this country cares nothing for you. I understand the fear and the anger and the denial. But it doesn't make the truth any less. America is made for the truly rich, and worshipping them or fantasizing that you'll one day join them will never help you.

It's amazing how patriotic people are until they are asked to make the smallest sacrifices for the good of their fellow compatriots.

Your state has a much higher illiteracy rate than most so who really is inbred? Maybe pull out of your sister once in a while. Oops, maybe I should say that in simpler words since you probably cant read.

Re: Covid 19 stats

Jesus fucking christ on a tricycle you're dumb.

"Maria Van Kerkhove had said on June 8: "We have a number of reports coming from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing. They are following asymptomatic cases, they are following contacts and they are not finding secondary transmission onwards. It is very rare. Much of that is not published in the literature."

The following day on June 9, following a media uproar she clarified during a live session that while 6-41% of COVID infected people may not show symptoms, many of them may transmit the disease. The organisation stated that "modelling studies have put the extent of asymptomatic transmission to about 40%".

"There have been two-three studies that followed asymptomatic cases over time and looked at all contacts and came to the conclusion that there was no spread but that is a very small subset of studies. In trying to articulate what we know, I used the words 'very rare' and there was a misunderstanding… what I didn't report yesterday because this is a major unknown is that there are some modelling studies that estimate that 40% transmission may be due to asymptomatic models. It is a modelling study so I didn't include in my answer yesterday," she said.

Van Kerkhove added that her initial statements were based on unpublished contact-tracing data collected by some WHO member countries.

Maybe you should tell that to people who survived a socialist country and came here to start a life worth living. It's amazing how the spoiled brats that never knew hardship are the first to shit on the country and the immigrants are the most patriotic.

Re: Covid 19 stats

"survivor of socialism"? You have absolutely no clue what socialism is.

I would say lots of people do "survive" in socialist countries, with all that free healthcare and high living standards.

Saying authoritarian dictatorships are "socialist" is some 50's McCarthyism bullshit you really shouldve grown over by now.

We are the country... your only looking at the bad, many great things have come from this country and it really has done more for the poorest than anywhere else. I'm a citizen and I want fairness and equal opportunity for all. You can literally come from a poor home and retire rich in this country. It has many problems but I still feel we have a better shot at success here than most other countries going. We need to unify and weed out the scumbags holding offices and positions of power. And you all know my stance but ill state it again... shrink the presidential role, shrink the fed, and get local more involved. Government is too large right now and our issues are too complex for 1 size fits all solutions.

I'm ready to stop this left / right division crap. I'm ready for neighbors to be neighbors again and communities to actually care for people. Screw these biased medias and their garbage propaganda.

Re: Covid 19 stats

It has many problems but I still feel we have a better shot at success here than most other countries going.

Not compared to first world countries. Affordable education would be required to have this be even slightly true.

The problem with most Americans is that from a very young age you are being brainwashed to believe the USA is the greatest country in the world, which in return makes you unable to see it's flaws and creates a great refusal to do anything about it's problems.

Posts links to old WHO info as validation.

Yer dumb.

Re: Covid 19 stats

anecdotally my partner and I both got covid after being exposed to a family member who later tested positive after being outside with her maintaining distance but not wearing masks.

We were down for about 3 weeks with extreme fatigue and some of the neurological symptoms (smell and taste). We have started to recover but are still having long term effects including muscle weakness, fatigue, brain fog, and difficulty focusing. discounting the 3x number of deaths from the same time as last years record breaking flu season there are a lot of long term effects that are just coming to light from guillane-barre, Rhabdomyolysis, decrease in cognitive function etc. etc. etc. Talking about just deaths is dumb because it discounts the long-term personal, economic, systemic healthcare, and societal impacts of an entire generation of people with physical and cognitive syndromes and disorders.

there are mountains of peer-reviewed studies showing that mask adoption can reduce the amount of transmission. It's not about making individuals impervious to transmission, it's about the aggregate reduction in number of cases. I'm not going to cite them here because just fucking google it you dipshit, they're everywhere.

It's insane to me that this is even a discussion. wear a fucking mask you idiot fucking child. It takes 0 fucking effort and if broadly adopted could drastically reduce deaths, complications, and many of the long term social effects of this pandemic. (edited)

Dude. Being in a hurry is a poor excuse. You are just dumb.

Re: Covid 19 stats

Deaths from covid against all other leading deaths. To be put into perspective, how many of the other deaths could have been prevented due to no health care being provided during this plandemic? How many people died because of no elective health care happening?

You people are morons for thinking that this is a big deal when there are people dying needlessly for other reasons.

So please for the sake of all these deaths on your hands STFU.

Correct. He should have, but he won't. You never experienced hardship like that either, adventurewagen. And I'm making the argument that we could be like much better first world countries, not that I think life would be better in honduras.

Jimmy - blame media or whatever all you want, they're all part of the same issue. And hiding from problems doesn't make them go away.

Yep, I just read an article about that a few days ago. Pretty scary shit really. This is NOT just the average flu by any means. I find it very difficult to believe that this is a naturally occurring virus and not man made.

Hugh Janus- stop cherry picking my comments and read the entire thing. I state very often multitudes of issues. I never said the media was the only issue, but they certainly do heap gasoline onto the fire.

Bas, tuition costs sky rocketed with the injection of federally backed loans which doesn't sound like a capitalist problem... big government once again failed its people. Now go back to talking about your utopia while you and the rest of the world look to us for many of the medical advancements keeping people alive.

Re: Covid 19 stats

Hey Seth, how did your "real patriots" handle cleaning out CHAZ?

(oh yeah, the bootlicking white middle aged racists you were touting actually did nothing and they brought in the pigs to crack skulls)

JImmy, I read all of your comments. The idea that we can lessen governmental power and increase community action is a fantastic one. I don't think that's possible with our current system, and the notion that it would be "all we need" is detrimental. Your suggestions come off as apologist for the current system, like we have the power to do so but we haven't yet. The ideas you're talking about are unattainable with that attitude. We aren't even close to changing anything for the better of citizens in this country.

was it not you that said nobody knows what to do? Why then wouldn't the best response be listening to the people who are experts in this. Maybe what theyre saying now is different from what they said before - good! That means we learned something new, but if every bit of probable evidence is suggesting and reaffirming that masks are good, and due scrutiny tells us that the absolute worst of masking up is that they don't work all that well, and if nothing else it reminds people to treat this seriously because if we know nothing else we know for damn sure it's serious, then I can see no reason to seek out self-assured religious political pundits on youtube to tell me the opposite of what every bit of well intended nonpartisan scientifically based experts agree - wear a dumb mask and definitely without question limit crowded gatherings especially indoors.

why is that so hard?

I know why, and it's been alluded to here - the partisan one-upmanship, desire to be right, whatever, and unfortunately our incredibly divisve president's enormous failures regarding this pandemic have made it a political issue - instead of owning the failure and progressing with poise, he's made it out that anyone not equally dismissive of the severity here is an enemy - divide. and certainly some mainstream media likes to gobble up that division and spit it back for entertainment value.

And I think a lot of the president's support comes from this place where people who've been content ignoring problems and injustice and inequality are sick and tired of hearing that theyre part of a problem that they were much happier ignoring. Labeling those trying to raise awareness and address those issues as "social justice warriors" and "snowflakes" makes it easy to dismiss their cause. ANd then a man comes along with all the trappings of traditional success (he's rich, annnnd that's all but whatever- he got a lot of money and hasnyt lost it all and that's traditionally a metric of success...) who now from a place of power is saying fuck them do what you want. fuck everyone else, focus on you, theyre all just trying to screw you to give handouts, make it easier on others. well fuck them

and then 0% of his policy matters as long as he's the voice that normalizes your blissful ignorance.

and then global pandemic - this really sucks for everyone, and he's up there kinda just reaffirming the same blissful ignorance. it's fine, it's just those other guys trying to make your life hard but you can beat them by supporting me.

and thousands die. horrible tragic deaths. with tubes down their throats, paralyzed with sedatives, unable to see or be seen by loved ones, slowly failing to get oxygen. and still the ignorant masses say "it hasn't happened to me yet, everyone dies..."

fucking tragic

Re: Covid 19 stats

first I've heard of swoops being described as "intellectual" but I dig it. I love my friends, and the Tuesday zoom chats recently can go from pretty deep heavy shit to arguing over something as pointless as the proper terms for printmaking techniques... either way we got some idiots for sure haha. Myself include most of the time.

I do like this forum as an opportunity to at least understand some opposing views, but also for the opportunity to collect some of my thoughts on these topics.

Re: Covid 19 stats

"Big Government" failing to provide is a scheme by and for Republicans.

They destroy it from within to prove it doesn't work. Grover Norquist built a VERY lucrative career out of saying it over and over and over and over. And now they have a dispshit in office who's putting people in charge of the very same Agencies and Government programs they seek to destroy.

It's cynical bullshit for the Freedumb crowd who don't know better and can only approach things linearly. As in" Hurrdurr government broken, must kill it."

It's pointless to argue though, we both have our perspective on the issue and neither of us can do jack shit about it.
