Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

Angry Hipster /

It seems despite the website owner's wishes a handful of people continue to post about these things with no regard to the pinned post which clearly states not to do it, and that its not what the OT section is supposed to be about.

What gives? What's the point of the rule even being pinned to the top?

I kind of think it is disrespectful and only tolerated somewhat due to the exhaustion of trying to delete the nonstop and sometimes vaguely worded political/religious threads. (edited)

Yes, how about on a different website.

Its hard to ignore the fact that the most popular OT topics are often involving politics and religion. The people that claim to hate the conversation seemed glued to the topic. Rather than ban or attempt to regulate the speech here maybe just stop partaking in the discussion. The "trolls" you dislike will eventually lose interest and stop posting if no one responds to their spiels. Poking the bear will provoke it to attack... unless you are this guy...

Picture isn't loading, and I want it to be clear it's not that I don't like the posts or dislike anyone.

It's just that the rule is clearly stated at the top and it seems wrong for everyone to ignore it.

Sorry, my images wouldnt load.

No problem,

My question is why here? Why proselytize/politic on a moped forum? It doesn't make sense yet without fail a group of people ignore the rules and do it anyway.

I don't understand the compulsion to put one's urge to talk about these things over the clearly stated and pinned rules at the top.

Simon has even stated what he wishes the OT to be about and people are like fuck you, I don't care, I'm going to do it anyway.

It's just bizarre... are people really going about their daily lives hearing religious/political things and thinking, "I can't wait to break the rules and post this in the OT section against Simon's wishes."

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

Because it's fun...

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

Since the rise of the internet nothing matters anymore, (not saying this is a good thing), just a true thing.

There could be worse hobbies I guess, I just seemed odd to me and hence why I posted.

I will give the political/religious poster credit in that their posts tend to stay within the thread they've created and not leak into other threads, though not always the case.

It would just suck to post about a chainsaw or something and then hear about trump or jesus, lol

What? Could you explain more?

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

People don't care about "rules" anymore, online they are alone, even though they say they are connected, so they post and say whatever they want, there are no consequences like there would be face to face.

Maybe we should start a service to correct that. Punchatroll.com

Its mission statement would consist of keeping people accountable for their words. Put the fear back into your freedom of speech. Your free to say anything you want, just watch out...

To bad GG Allin isnt here to run things for us.

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

It is what it is, he asked why people don't follow a rule, that's why. It's just a social phenomenon, it kind of used to BE say what you want, but if you talked shit to someone, you might get smacked. Now, very little chance of that. (edited)

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

"Off-topic anything goes" would be more appropriate. Simply seems a waste to dedicate a forum for political or religious views only.

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

People don't know how to debate respectfully. It always digresses into argument and name-calling.

That said, it is mildly entertaining watching Don Ohio make troll posts with his particular brand of self-righteous stupidity, and try to pretend he's a good Christian while doing so. (edited)

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

Compared to the good ol' days of the internet this is child's play.

No, all politicians on both size suck, most become millionaires and billionaires after

they’re done being an office and while in office they make money from bribes from insider trading,

I don’t think there is enough rounds in a C47 gunship to take out every crooked politician,

.1% are honest

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

Although I dont create religious or political threads. I do engage in them because I do find it interesting to compare notes and to see how many others out there think out side the box or norm.

Likewise, so we have something in common besides mopeds.

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

I liked it better when you could only see the OT forum if you signed in.

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

I just touched on this on your other post. If you want em gone - just police it. report and the mods will delete it. But yea, truth is we enjoy arguing this shit for the self-satisfaction of believing that our point, whatever point, is "right"

Lol, thanks for letting me know the deal. If everyone is cool with it then it's fine by me.

I just didn't know the rule was so unenforced

I think it's still like that?

The "sticky" thats pinned at the top of off-topic came right after a certain person named Bob Mosurinjohn. was repeatedly and publicly warned by Simon. Also, Bob had three other troll accounts; Dawn Coyote, Yucka Plant & Tptwo Tptwotwo. All of which have been banned and silent for about 3 years now. "Bob" would repeatedly copy and paste controversial topics about homosexuality and the spread of aids/hiv, not to mention religious rhetoric.

How could I forget, aka Targaped. Even has a place in the wiki here.

Re: Should there be a seperate Off Topic Political/Religious forum?

It took me awhile to find it, but here is Simons' public warning to Bob. In retrospect the pinned sticky was put up first and Bob continued anyway.
