Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

Anyone who takes the bible entirely literally today had better have a backyard full of goats for various forms of restitution. Why? The bible COMMANDS IT!

Leviticus 5:6 ESV /

He shall bring to the Lord as his compensation for the sin that he has committed, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin.

Numbers 15:27 ESV /

“If one person sins unintentionally, he shall offer a female goat a year old for a sin offering.

Exodus 22:1-31 ESV / ay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. He shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. If the stolen beast is found alive in his possession, whether it is an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he shall pay double. “If a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed over, or lets his beast loose and it feeds in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best in his own field and in his own vineyard.

Numbers 15:24 ESV /

Then if it was done unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, all the congregation shall offer one bull from the herd for a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the rule, and one male goat for a sin offering

Numbers 7:23 ESV /

And for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old.

Honestly it is far more plausible that the earth is a genetics lab for a more advanced life form than any of the religions. so again, have a blast, ride your moped, do your best to be a decent sort, and live until you die.

Yeah, but those parts of the bible are not to be taken too seriously, unlike the parts that i was told from a young age are absolute truth. (edited)

^ The goat stuff is when the con-men took over, everyone sins, so constant offerings are required, and the church was in charge of them...mmm hmmm.

The "bible" is actually two groups of writtings. One written for jews, the other for christians. Please stop quoting Leviticus, its literally irrelevant for any practicing christian and you sound ignorant.

I am not a practicing christian.

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

It's always amusing when "atheists" mount their soapbox to slam religion and then pretend that they have even thought for one millisecond about the single reason religion exists, and has existed for millennia.

If you're content thinking of yourself and all other humans as basically fruit flies, then fine, I feel sorry for you.

Of course almost no one really thinks of humanity that way. After all, who can deny that we, uniquely among the animals, have intellect for things like math, medicine and science, emotions for love and hate, empathy for caring for each other, and creativity for art and music.

We alone can ask the questions of what we really are and why we're here, and to what purpose is our existence? What is good and what is evil and why is that so?

Yes indeed, religion is a man made construct, as is everything we do outside of

nature. Good and bad is inherent in all things human, and religion is no exception. Believing in a loving, omnipotent God however, seems no more far fetched than believing in alternate universes, big bang theories, aliens, dark matter, re-incarnation, socialist Utopias, or the many other human fantasies that have zero chance of ever being proven as true.

The definition of religion is a faith in something, that perhaps cannot be proven, but serves to help explain a purpose to our existence.

Make no mistake, religion takes many forms; Deist, Animist, Pseudo-Science, politics, secular humanism, and Earth Worship, just to name a few.

Many brilliant minds have pondered these themes across the centuries. To the shallow modern mind that thinks they are somehow wiser solely because of having arrived here later, I say you are just an ignorant fool.

As the saying goes, "When someone says they don't believe in God,

it doesn't mean they believe in nothing, it means they will believe in

anything."

“As the saying goes, "When someone says they don't believe in God,

That’s not what it means.

And you say this is a “saying”? Where is this saying said and by who? Did you just make this up? It doesn’t matter. I don’t believe in sayings either. What does that mean?

If you want to talk about something that means something other than what is said, go to church. As the preacher reads from the bible, he will follow it everything up with ‘Now what that means is...’, as he puts his own thoughts into it. (edited)

I'm agnostic not atheist. Learn the difference.

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

I guess it's a "saying" because I've heard it for many years from many sources. Point being, folks love to rag on people of faith, but can't recognize the many things they take on faith as well, often without thinking about it. Too bad topics like this degenerate into dismissive snark instead of thoughtful interchange, but probably not the best forum for tolerant thinkers.

Another saying; Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and they all stink.

I still like mopeds..... and mopedders, regardless.

Carry on.

TL/DR:

Don and other old white men proselytize at everyone about God and abortion.

Just like every OT thread.

Good point,Steve……………………...backed up by the Bible's inspired thoughts written Romans 2: verses 14 and 15.

14 For when heathens who do not have the law do by nature what the law commands, these, not having the law, are a law for themselves, 15

displaying as they do the work of the law in writing on their hearts, their own consciences joining in the testimony and their mutual thoughts bringing accusations or, as the case may be, defenses.

So, the Bible tells us why our conscience basically follows the good, because God wrote it in our hearts, even if claiming no religion or belief. See? (edited)

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

I know I'm a bit new to the game but all these religious/political threads go against what Simon has pinned here in Off Topic moderation guidelines.

I don't have a personal problem with this stuff, but it seems disrespectful to ignore his wishes and post this stuff over and over.

Here is a copy of the guidelines:

The off-topic forum is here so that we can discuss things that are not strictly moped related, but it’s not a place to spread political ideology or get into fights. Think of this as a place to talk about scooters, motorcycles, recommendations for travel, or your favorite TV show. It’s off-topic, but that doesn’t mean that it’s appropriate for any topic. It’s certainly not a place where we want to encourage bickering or fighting amongst each other. It’s also not a place to express views of intolerance or hatred.

Because of frequent fighting and harassment related to posts that are political or religious in nature I have decided to take a harder stance against these posts. There are plenty of places online where you can discuss these topics. Feel free to hang out on Reddit as much as you want. It's not what this forum is intended for.

My hope is that by removing the constant political hot-takes we can shift the tone of the discussion here to useful off-topic conversation and reduce the amount of baiting and fighting. This is an effort to save this forum, which has gotten so full of snarky political jabs and nonsense that it's nearly useless and very alienating to newcomers.

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

This thread was started with a MINDLESS attack on belief in God. Yes,it should not be allowed.

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

Angry Hipster /

My question is why here? Why proselytize on a moped forum? It doesn't make sense yet without fail a group of people ignore the rules and do it anyway.

I don't understand the compulsion to put one's urge to talk about these things over the clearly stated and pinned rules at the top.

Simon has even stated what he wishes the OT to be about and people are like fuck you, I don't care, I'm going to do it anyway. (edited)

Re: Anyone who believes in a god....

How bout everyone believe whatever makes them feel warm and fuzzy because:

1) it really doesn't matter

2) no one really gives a shit

3) if your in America your free to think what you like.

Personally I don't adhere to any religious sect or worship any deities. But I do believe that there are too many coincidences lined up for the existence of life. Than again it doesn't matter what I think. Now the one thing church is good for though is ducking taxes. (edited)

Although I dont create religious or political threads. I do engage in them because I do find it interesting to compare notes and see how many others out there think out side the box or norm. (edited)

I was wearing a planned parenthood sweatshirt the other day and what I can only guess was an evangelical trump supporter yelled at me, “THE LIBS ARE USING YOUR APATHY LIKE HITLER USED BOX CARS”. This thread makes the same amount of sense to me.
