It's always amusing when "atheists" mount their soapbox to slam religion and then pretend that they have even thought for one millisecond about the single reason religion exists, and has existed for millennia.
If you're content thinking of yourself and all other humans as basically fruit flies, then fine, I feel sorry for you.
Of course almost no one really thinks of humanity that way. After all, who can deny that we, uniquely among the animals, have intellect for things like math, medicine and science, emotions for love and hate, empathy for caring for each other, and creativity for art and music.
We alone can ask the questions of what we really are and why we're here, and to what purpose is our existence? What is good and what is evil and why is that so?
Yes indeed, religion is a man made construct, as is everything we do outside of

Believing in a loving, omnipotent God however, seems no more far fetched than believing in alternate universes, big bang theories, aliens, dark matter, re-incarnation, socialist Utopias, or the many other human fantasies that have zero chance of ever being proven as true.
The definition of religion is a faith in something, that perhaps cannot be proven, but serves to help explain a purpose to our existence.
Make no mistake, religion takes many forms; Deist, Animist, Pseudo-Science, politics, secular humanism, and Earth Worship, just to name a few.
Many brilliant minds have pondered these themes across the centuries. To the shallow modern mind that thinks they are somehow wiser solely because of having arrived here later, I say you are just an ignorant fool.
As the saying goes, "When someone says they don't believe in God,
it doesn't mean they believe in nothing, it means they will believe in
