First car I ever drove in life was a 50s Chevy nomad wagon 6 cylinder three speed on the tree, only in first and second in a park, parking lot on a Sunday with not one vehicle in the lot but I didn’t stall and did pretty good because I had manual shift sears moped experience

and Trail bike experience, I went over 50 mph and stopped way before the parking lot, not bad for the first time,

Don't know about Cry-Slur, but GM always had a problem with cracked caps on account of water hitting them.

^I remember when those came out, reading about them in Car and Driver mag....yours have the sunroof?

Re: Help me find my dream car

I hope it does not have the sound roof. They never really sealed from the factory and the drains always clog. I had a 78 rabbit with one and boy did it leak. It’s nothing compared to the cabby I had for a couple years. Even after replacing the top it still dumped water right on to my knee whenever it rained.

1983 is the Only Year you can get a GTI w/o a SunRoof (ie a Tin Top)

1984 On All GTIs have SunRoofs

Mine is a Early 84 Tin Top

Re: Help me find my dream car

I have a crappy 97 mk3 jetta gl right now. it's manual, which is nice and it's decently small and efficient, i can put a kid in it occasionally, and it was sure as hell cheap. But it has the sunroof, electric, with automatic shutting when you turn the car off. sometimes it randomly goes crazy and decides the closed sunroof isn;t closed, and tries to close it, by opening it? I dunno but i've caught it trying to open the sunroof as i walk away and other times have come outta work to a car full of snow.

Still, i like the sunroof. it's awesome when it's awesome.

It had also almost definitely clogged, i dunno if it's as common with the 90's ones as it was earlier, but when i got this car it had no headliner. my very strong suspicion is the sunroof leaked until it soaked the headliner and got moldy or gross.

Re: Help me find my dream car

^ That's funny, sort of, and exactly why I will not own vw/audi of those vintage, any really. Stupid shit like that is unacceptable, Japanese stuff of that vintage is way better built. I had a Rabbit, was a really fun car to drive, but rust developed around the bottom edge of the windshield, and water leaked into the fuse block causing all kinds of mayhem, to the point of junking the car. Also took too many specialized tools to work on, ie the alternator took one regular bolt, and had one other that you needed a hundred dollar wrench to reach through the bracketing to remove, who dreams this shit up? :/

When the SunRoof is Closed (car off) - Can you pull the SunRoof Fuse ?

Can you see any of the wires Goin to the SunRoof ? -- if so Just disconnect it.

(I'm guessin you probably already tried that stuff)

I glued a piece of marine grade plywood with construction adhesive over the top of my friends sunroof and it never leaked again

I think a Miata would be cool, a stick with a hard top. An early one with the pop up lights.

They are neat, but you better be a small human, especially the first gen, so tiny.
