Bought one. First motorcycle ever ridden. Love it. Anyone else have something for longer adventure rides?

Is that the big single?
Ahhh, the Killer. Nice bike with tons of raw power. My ole man has an 06 and I love it.
Yeah big single. Already dealt with a tiny little electrical gremlin...but was a real easy fix.
Don't know too much about them, but sure does have some power. I like the upright alert riding position.
Mines a 2006 as well. 2008-Present have had some issues.
NICE ride. Enjoy.
EXCELLENT+++
I have one. I like it. Slow, heavy, not so great on road, not so great off road, but it always keeps going. Makes a great foul weather bike, I have 2000 miles on it this winter. Snow, mud, rain, goes pretty good. Got a sticker on it that says "swiss army bike", and that's a pretty good description.
The 2008+ is a better bike IMO. Beefier forks, wheels, better wind protection, better brakes, better electrics. The only issues that they have that the older ones didn't is the oil consumption issue that is only common on the 08s. The newer ones don't have that issue, it was fixed by 09. The thing that the older bikes have going for them is that they are a little lighter, and they have less plastic to break.
Do the doohickey mod if you haven't already. Also, Thermo-bob if you are in a cooler climate. Keep your radiator protected, I pierced one on an older KLR too easily on the trail, and that's an expensive fix. Other than that, they are pretty bulletproof. I have happy trails skidplate and engine guards on... It needs something there... Heavy bike without much ground clearance.
Crashed today on a frozen lake. Just a mellow drop, but still...
Pretty sure falls like these are in need too "break the ice" of this awkward new bike relationship.
Spent the morning online shopping for a radiator / fairing guard. Spent the afternoon cracking that fairing. :/
Ill get the happy trails "nerf" crash / radiator guard. Looks beefier than the SW motech one.
(edited)
that sucks dude
nice!! dont worry, if you are riding it as intended, you will end up dropping it a lot. mine has been down at least twenty times, and i have owned it for 7 months. the crash guards help a lot.
the SW-motechs are actually really nice, so if you happen to find a good deal on them, dont pass it up. the happy trails have more coverage, and i feel like are stronger. get the package with the skidplate and highway bars. saves you a bunch of cash.
Worst bike you could buy. Its a Kawi. Plus its a super heavy pig. Good luck going off road with that you fag. Stick to fire roads.
i had an air-cooled one back in the day
I have a '87 Honda XL600 and I love it. Like Ben said, they are universal, not good for anything in the universe.
fags.
bought a klx250s last year so glad i did, this winter i put 150 ice screws in the back tire and romped the snow most fun you can have with an old/worn tire.
looks like you could use em too!
Adventure riding is awesome be safe.
May do an IMS/Safari tank to gain radiator protection that way. What would you recommend for "piercing" protection though?
XL600R. WAN RACE
^wow, sweet, no paris to Dakar bmw, but looks awesome!
i dunno why anyone would wanna custom pretty-up a bike like that. I'd rather see it customed with scratches dents and mud
Put your fender back on.....looks good though.
fender is just is black now?
////off topic post////
I welded something the other day ( for the first time) and I felt so accomplished. It was an important part and it has held together since even after rigerous use!
I will replace it with a factory part but I will always remember.
...friend told me he had one but didn't know how to use it.
!
Welder I used - Nifty, usable everywhere, good for small stuff and not body work 'too much splatter' supposidly
Auto mask I used with it - A MUST
To make the welder better I read that you need to basically replace the spool of wire it came with by rolling your own good ( hobart, etc.) wire to the right size spool that comes with it. Wait for a coupon and buy @ HF and not eBay incase you have problems/broken pieces!!![/url]
Anyway - Point is.... welding is awesome and for doing simple stuff like the OP here did its cheaper than you thought and for $160 your good to go
^agreed, but I do NOT see a fender, black or otherwise, just said that because bike has a radiator, and no fender will throw stuff at it.
Yup a fender is there. Small though...even the old bigger fender didnt do a great job of protecting the rad. Will likely build a little secondary fender off the fork brace. Have seen it done, & it looks smart.
Welding is great. Making little bits that are not structural is my jam for now. Don't really trust my welds for life reliance.
got an 05 suzuki sv650s .... need to change the brakes on it and by a new rear rotar.
