Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

King Drunky JCams /

Hey all,

I picked up an amazing 1982 Kawasaki AR80 yesterday (yes, Easter Sunday) and I've been drooling over it every moment since.

This is my first motorcycle ever. And man, it's a doozy to start out with that's for sure. I was too scared to even ride it yesterday, but today, I can hardly stay off of it.

I wanted to share some pics because it maybe the nicest condition AR80 around... Seriously, it's nearly flawless.

Hope this pic thing works, it's my first attempt at posting pics since the new site was launched.

The only issues with the bike are that I've gotta replace some of the inner workings of the master cylinder - no front brake for the moment. And the running light isn't working... blown bulb maybe? Also, the tires are original, and very dry rotted and in need of replacing. Leaky carb when the fuel is left on too - dirty needle and seat? Lucky for me Mikuni needle seats are threaded for super easy replacement.

3,7xx miles from new.

Expect to see at some point some Weak-Ends 20mm VM Mikuni intake action and a custom handbuilt exhaust as well... Super excited.

Gotta order sprockets too! (edited)

Kinda suprising that only one person replied to this thread...

It's one of two things I think:

A.) Nobody has heard of or seen an AR80 before.

or

B.) Nobody who knows about this rad bike comes into this forum because of all the stupid/time-wasting shit posted here.

Either way, the OT forum is pretty crappy.

No wonder there are like 6 people who post here.

Leaving the OT forum for good in 3, 2, 1...

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

why fuck with it if its already so minty. I'd probably fix that master cylinder and then ride the shit out of it. I hate it when I buy a bike and start dreaming of what I want it to look/ride like. It usually kills my pocketbook and I end up having the bike in pieces instead of riding it. It really kills my happiness level. But its your bike and you can do what you want. AR80's are tight and this one looks awesome. I'd like to find a kawi green one...awesome.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

ben is selling his AR80 in the buy/sell right now. someone should buy it.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

That thing is awesome.

Id put it on the general forum where people hold wrenches and smell like gas once in a while and don't find that thier most personal connection to a moped is a keyboard.

I know what that is.

I want to wring that things neck like the red haired stepchild it is!

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

So much cooler than an MB5. Wow, they don't show in much better shape than that, do they? How did you find it?

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Andres Edward Felix /

That bike looks like it was stored in a hermetically sealed container for 29 years. The only clue from the pix that it was ridden is the 3000 plus miles on the odo.

Nice score!

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Andrew Ziel /

Nice looking bike, whats the top speed on these babies?

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Justin, I envy you! I want one of these so badly!

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

I found a green one...but the dude wants 2000 for it...its in probably the same shape but the seller is a douchebag. He tried to sell me a stock ass non running moped for 800 dollars...I kinda gave up trying to talk him down or even talk some sense into him when that happened.

nick pick up J. I'd ditch the fairing though, I've never seen one with one and it looks stupid huge and kinda cross country goldwing stylo. just my opinion tho, super slick still.

you would've got half a crapton of WFFF if posted in gen, but another half of two thumbs up, too. i accept andrew's assessment but glad to see there are still roses among the thorns of this forum. the delicious twist of torquemada is amazing even compared to a kitted bitchslap, let alone our dear darned stock bikes. hope you can get the front brake and tires sorted soon so you can get a better feel of her. fwiw i paid 800 for mine, no fairing but naked is fine.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

That is a glorious motorcycle. Glorious things belong in the general forum, not the cesspool that is OT.

Is the windscreen on the fairing supposed to be blacked out like that? It looks cool, and I suppose it wouldn't present a visibility problem unless you were crouched down really low, but it just seems like that ought to be see-through.

Id put it on the general forum where people hold wrenches and smell like gas once in a while and don't find that thier most personal connection to a moped is a keyboard.

^ I lol'd. Well put.

See? Just when I was about to give up, good, knowledgeable people chime in for some good banter... something I thought nearly impossible in this forum unless you are praising/slamming our "president".

Yes, Linda - GLORIOUS is a great definition.

I'm a huge fan of the fairing, so there's no way I'm gonna take it off.

As for "why fuck with it if its already so minty." - I won't "fuck with it" - as in, lose, sell, discard any of the OG parts. In fact, they would be stored with the greatest of care, should I decide to go back to stock.

However, I'm liking the bike so much as is I have no intention of changing anything in the near future.

I ordered four parts for the front master cylinder from my local Kawasaki dealer... $55!

Hopefully that's all I'll need to repair the front brake and get that working properly.

How I found it?

I traded this:

and a new Weak-Ends Flat Reed Derbi pipe for it.

A sweet deal I think... for both parties.

As for the top speed of the AR80?

I'm guessing 60+ mph

The bike has no title.

I have no motorcycle endorsement.

So, I can't really ride it too much except for up and down my street a couple times.

Saving my pennies for the lost title crap and for motorcycle license classes.

Yes, in FL you MUST take a $300 class before you are given a motorcycle endorsement. Ghey.

Looking forward to being legit though :)

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

the motorcycle class is completely worthwhile. dont underestimate.

also sweet bike. the fairing is crucial. i cant believe how perfect the condition is on that. really--it doesnt seem possible.

) Cupermcnewbster ( /

cuperteens have 2 ar50s. They are super rad bikes. Kinda funny looking rear section, but tons of fun. One has really nice slicks

The other is looking much better than it was here. A work in progress

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Yea Justin the no title thing sucks ass! I got lucky recently! Once I payed off all my fines in Kansas, I went to get my Lic. and When I lived in Kansas I had already gotten the endorsement! So they Gave it back to me here in Florida! Score!

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

I was just about to mention that you can get your licensed transfered...they accept the endorsments of the other states...badass huh?

That titling thing might be an issue but I think you'll have to fork out some dough but it'll be worth it.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

clean

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Nice find...the Floating Seat doesn't look like it would hold my fat ass for too long. That's the wierd looking part of it I guess

Hell to the yes keep the fairing...would look a little better with a shorter windshield, but that's my opinion. Who the hell am I anyway! I don't build rad bikes like JCams....only admire them.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

I would LOVE to hear about the top speed and general performance of that, especially after (if) you make a pipe and put a bigger carb/intake on it. I kinda want to get a motorcycle some day when I have a real job and can afford it, and AR80's are awfully high on the short list of motorcycles I'd want. I wish there were more of them, though!

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

I've gotten mine up to 60. Looks like you are missing the turn signals.

If the regulator goes, you'll blow your headlights.

I'm going to sell mine soon. I would trade it straight across for a solid running Vespa scooter.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Paul's AR80 is alllmost done...

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

He has a 90cc kit on this one and a 21 mm carb.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

wow. howabout that shit. something in off topic that's not political BS. and you still get all sassed up when people disagree with you. you waited 3 hours before getting your panties wadded over how little love your bike got. MAN can you say attention whore (takes one to know one, and I know one)

WAAAHHHH nobody liked my AR80

well here's some news, nobody liked your hobbit either.

"cooler than an MB5" yeah maybe. but not cooler than an MB8.

granted it is obnoxiously clean. and boring.

there, you happy? people are commenting on your post.

I think my favorite thing you said was "leaving this forum in 3...2...1..."

One of two things happened.

1) You realized OT doesn't suck, or rather you have nothing better

2)You forgot how to count.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

way cooler than an mb8 IMO

Re-read the dates dipshit.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

OT Does suck! I wish there were more threads like this.

Re: Minty 1982 Kawasaki AR80 - PICS

Oh.

i guess I'm the chump after all. my bad. please forgive me.

i think you're a whiny little weiner which is the only thing that makes this thread amusing.
