I have never seen those.
don't laguna sports come with the flatreed? That there looks like a piston port to me.
Laguna comes with Piston port motor.
Yes. I believe the TS is a Europe-only model. The only real variations with U.S. Lagunas is that some are electric start models. Mine didn't work.
Steve, it worked just needed new battery. I had one made but i left the switch on and it drained. It's realy only effective when the bike is warmed up and the battery is fully charged.
while were at it who knows all the variant differences?
TTs.. some of the earlier bikes imported.. piston ports
SLEs... pyramid reeds until '86 or so when they switched to flat reeds
Sports and Sport Rs... flat reeds
early '80s SLs also... piston ports
The Laguna Sport has a plastic tail section and a longer seat. It looks like the TS has a shorter seat, no tail, and a rack. The electric start was an option that could be added.
Spokes are 16" and Mags are 17" on the old Variants.
Wow! That is Sweet! Wonder what motor that has?
Love the Derbi saddlebags.
the ts looks like it has a tomos lx seat.
laguna sport looks way cooler
mis-info abound.
All early derbis, up to 81, maybe 82 have piston port motors. This is SL, SLE, TT, C5, Laguna Sport. Also the earlier versions all had 17" wheels, either mag or spokes (including ALL TTs).
Also, much of the transition bikes (80, 81) have piston port motors with the pyramid reed block cast into the cases but blocked out, so they are still piston port.
I'm sure there is a bounty of color combos, options (like the backrest, harley foot pegs, skid plates and more), on top of different motor combos, let alone drivetrain combos (not all derbi brake plates are the same, especially the rears). Everything derbi is a crapshoot and I think it'd be impossible to document every detail through the years.
oh yea, those are probably from france. For some reason the c5 and laguna were semi-popular there
yes my 82 Sl is a piston port.
Also I have 16" Spokes on my 83sl.
correction 83 is the year.
CuperZach has good info.
4 stars dont carry the same brake plates either. Some TSM's came with 5 stars. Parts are fairly difficult to find unless sourced from overseas. TT forks are different than those of SL/SLE and carry a different fender.
Another well known fact...people fucking love derbis...
holy shit, i didnt even know that version of the laguna existed.
so are the Variant, TT, SL, SLE differences mostly cosmetic or were there like diff carbs and varos? like puch 1, 1.5, and 2 hp models?
Laguna TS is a shitty broke ass harley.
Yea, differences between early variants were merely cosmetic. That said, I do believe there are different speed ratings for the motors. I've seen cases stamped both "25" and "30", on the variator side. I'm not sure what the actual restriction is, but it must be something more than just a spacer between the cheeks because why bother stamping cases with just that.
Later variants, namely the flat reed SLE and Sport had different wheels (7 stars vs 4), fenders, and other cosmetic detailing. Not sure about speed ratings for those years.
I have two stock top ends. One piston has a top dyke ring and the others have the regular two ring piston.

what are they off jesse?
One is off a laguna. and the one with the dyke ring piston was the stock 83' sl. from my bike.
Some around here have restictors in the intake. I think only some pyramid reeds had those.
