Help with my tomos

mopedsatdawn .blogspot.co.uk /

Hi all,

Went out for a ride on my 83 tomos A3 today

Its standard apart from leovince exhaust, Dellorto 14/14 with 56 jet

Havent had it that long so only do short local runs on it as unsure of how reliable it is yet.

Rode for maybe 6 miles and everything was fine then going down a large hill started to sound like it wasnt running right. I pulled over and kicked it over and it fired but really lumpy idle. left it for half an hour to cool down and when i started it again same problem.

Pushed it about 4 miles home plug was quite black cleaned out carb and still its running lumpy as hell on idle.

Any ideas??

Re: Help with my tomos

What do you mean by lumpy?

What i meant is when i kick it over it runs but stutters then dies. if i blip the throttle i can just about keep it running

Re: Help with my tomos

Further explanation of the symptoms is necessary.

normally i would kick it over and it would run smoothly. Now when i kick it over the revs go up and down and it splutters

what else can i tell you?

Re: Help with my tomos

You really need to explain more about how it runs. Idling poorly is not good enough. t It's like going to the doc and saying "I don't feel good in the morning".

Re: Help with my tomos

Maybe you just are not getting enough fuel.try replacing the fuel line with new fuel line.put a new spark plug in.make sure your jet is not clogged.try all these simple things.

Re: Help with my tomos

Maybe your jet is clogged.

Maybe your plug is fowled.

Maybe your jet fell out.

Maybe your carb came loose.

Maybe your reeds are broke.

Maybe you should be more descriptive.

Maybe you should ask in the repair forum.

Maybe your jet is clogged.

I have cleaned the carb and made sure the jet is clear

Maybe your plug is fowled.

I have cleaned the plug it was black but not oily will buy a new one today.

Maybe your jet fell out.

I made sure jet was tight when i cleaned the carb

Maybe your carb came loose.

It certainly was something sudden like the carb coming loose one moment im riding along fine and the next it splitters and cuts out.

Maybe your reeds are broke.

I dont have reeds as its an A3

Maybe you should be more descriptive.

Ill do my best but pretty new to messing about with mopeds

Maybe you should ask in the repair forum.

I also posted in the repair forum but had more replys here.

Will try replacing fuel line today i do have an inline fuel filter installed which is in the right way round. should i remove this?

Just thought it would stop the carb getting clogged. Checked jet and its fine and will get a new plug today.

double check your bulbs

tomos a3's need the head and tail/brakelights to run properly

my bullet would do the same thing

it took me a month to figure out it was a hairline split in the tailbulb

looked fine lit up but when the bike was running

the vibration would break the circuit and make it sputter

the delorto has this snorkel type tube

sometimes it gets joggled out of place

and it effects the idle and starting

it also fowls the auto choke plate btw it isnt stuck on is it?

hope i helped good luck

Thanx for you reply,

Both my headlight and taillight bulbs arn't working i just noticed!

Shall i just buy new bulbs? will that fix it?

Also i swapped out the dellorto and put on the old encarwi carb and still had the same problem.

So from this it shows its not the carb?

This light thing sounds like it could be it!

Thanx will investigate
