My Sachs Westlake stolen

Bruce E. Durocher Ii /

My 1979 Sachs Westlake was stolen from my backyard in West Seattle. It's Olive Green. (I can supply the VIN if necessary.) The reason I wasn't riding it was that some years ago a vandal cut all the cables on it (probably with a hunting knife), stole one of the covers for the chains (the right side, I think) as well as the air filter, and stuck the seat repeatedly with a hunting knife. (The last was pointless: as you know that seat is almost indestructible so the slits are deep but the seat is mostly intact. They did manage to cut a couple of small scallops off the sides of the seat.) I've been saving up for repairs but in the mean time the tires are flat because when the damage was done the only person I could find that did moped repair was in Monroe, WA and I couldn't find anyone in the Seattle area to do the work: I was recently given an estimate of $400.00 in the Seattle area to get it up and running again. Front wheel is locked into a turn (they'll have to pick the lock or find a master key), but other than that it's in good condition: those folks that have seen it in the backyard here in West Seattle have been pretty darned determined to buy it off of me. If you hear of anything that might help, please let me know!

Re: My Sachs Westlake stolen

did you file a police report?

Re: My Sachs Westlake stolen

It's best to file a police report with photocopies of pictures you may have - and several if you have them. You may also want to go to your local post office with a bunch of 3x5 pictures w/contact info & description so they can be distributed to letter carriers. They see EVERYTHING in the neighborhoods they work in. Also, don't sweat that steering head lock, for anybody determined one quick snap at the bars and those locks are usually wrecked. Good luck!

Yes, although I need to call back with the VIN because it took awhile to find a document from 1979. Finally got it, and as soon as Auto Theft is open will call them and give it to them.

Well, I've got a police report, but don't think I've got any photos of it. Letter carriers are a good idea if I had a picture, since one of the folks that was hot to buy it from me was a letter carrier. I was hoping that the lock might be useful as secondary identification if they just break it because I still have the key and a locksmith would be able to tell if the sheer pins in the lock match my key...

Re: My Sachs Westlake stolen

Good luck getting it back, go look around your nieghborhood, it may be in a ditch somewhere, or an alley or whatever...they may have gotten tired of pushing a dead bike. Best of luck!

Kind of stupid to steal a bike with cut cables and a steering lock whoever it was must have been an idiot.Good luck getting it back.
