Squeaky brakes - problem?

Hellcat Carrie /

If I have squeaky brakes, is this indicative of a problem that needs attention? The problem seems to have intensified since I bought the moped last January, but that could also be the result of my driving crazier now that spring is here and I know what my little ped can do. Stopping time hasn't been affected; I just don't want to go skidding into traffic and die should they fail me due to my negligence.

Carrie,

When drum brakes squeak, it usually just means they have a build up of crud inside. That said, moped brakes a really easy to take apart, you should open them up and look at them. Gives you an opportunity to check and lube the wheel bearings too.

You may as well ckeck the spokes too and the steering head bearings and the swingarm bearings....

Excuse me, it's spring :-)

I've got brakes that howl like banshees. What's the big secret?

Cool, I'll be seeing you tomorrow afternoon, probably. I have to change my tires anyway, so may as well take the whole thing apart. (Watch me be moped-less all week as a result.)

Were good at fixing mopeds fast, just ask Miguel!

Re: thanks daveb

if by fast you mean two months ... but that's mostly my fault (lack of time, skill, patience).
