Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

Here is my old 77. It now belongs to steve. It topped out at a whopping 22 mph but I sure miss it. It never failed to start on the first try.

Why so slow? They should be hitting 30, correct?

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

The handlebars on that red bat are ordinary ones that are rotated 180 deg. It gives the racer look. Unfortunately, it puts the end of the handle bars right against the gas tank. I've known a number of people who damaged perfect tanks on rare peds when the bike fell over or tipped into a wall because they installed the handlebars that way. If you've ever wondered where all those tanks with sharp dents in the sides come from, that's one way.

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

the bars do not tuch the tank on this bike.

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

Good that they don't touch. I've seen some nice magnum tanks get dented by the bars.

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

nah, the stock magnum forks are what did the tank damage. ive come across a lot that were like that.

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

The combination of the handlebars at 180 and stock magnum forks allows the ends to strike the tank. When the stock handlebars are mounted in a normal stock orientation on a magnum, the bar ends are above the tank and miss it, even though the fork turns through a large angle.

The HS50 I own has a fairly narrow gas tank compared with my magnum. I never tried putting the handlebars 180 on my HS50 to see if the fork turns enough for the bar ends to strike the tank. The magnum I currently own has a dented tank that resulted from the bars mounted 180 by the previous owner.

The potential to damage the tank is something to consider when mounting handlebars 180 on any bike.

Re: Batavus Mobat pics?

Here's a nice looking black Batavus.
