Yeah, maybe it was a waste (maybe not). But wouldn't you like to ride in

something like that. A little more work and you could have something pretty

interesting.

What would somebody have to do if they wanted to make a moped from scratch,

and get it road legal ? Anybody got any info or ideas

The only reason why they won is because the engine was taken from a 'MOPED'. I missed the first 10 minutes of the show yesterday and didnt get a good glipse at the bike. Was it a scooter(70cc Honda Passport) or was it a moped? The Engine from the moped was already geared the right way where as the green team used a weed wacker engine and had to set up the right gear ratio. Also the belt driven way wasnt the best let alone running in the rain. Does anyone know what the record is for the best MPG on a gasoline engine?

They mentioned the record holder on the show yesterday. It's over 8000 (yes, thats

8K) miles per gallon. Yikes. I would think the green team would have put some kind of cover over the belt mechanism to stop the rain from bothering it. The ped

contraption was pretty cool. I thought the constant warnings to slow down were

pretty funny. A bunch of big bikers driving half a moped, and you have to tell them

to slow down even more :~)

8000...jees I wonder how many CCs the engine is. heh

I built a scooter a few years ago and was told that it would be next to impossible to certify it. The best advice I got was to use the front end off a moped or motorcycle with the serial number on it, then register it as that bike, and it would be considered modified. That's easy enough, just hack the front end off a junk moped and weld it on in place of the bike front end it had, actually that was held on by u-bolts cause i don't have a welder. The hard part is finding a mechanic who's dumb enough to certify it. I wish I could get that thing certified someday. It's fun to drive, looks like nothing else you've ever seen and performance wise beats the crap out of my moped.
