long trips

Jon Dalton /

I just got back from my first really long trip on a moped, it was an approx. 100 km. round trip, to my nana's house and back. Yesterday the wind was blowing so hard, and I mean hard, it almost blew me right off the road. I was leaning left in order to stay on the road and once a big bus came up behind me and passed real close, and it created an enormous sideways force that pushed me so close the front wheel came 3/4 of an inch from the edge of the road! I have to question the good judgement of a lot of car drivers who pass on the solid when there's a car coming in the other lane. Then again, it must suck being stuck behind a moped. On the way back a school bus passed me going down this really steep hill with no shoulders right before a bridge and a sharp corner so if a car was coming the other way, there's no way he could have avoided it. The moped didn't give me any trouble except almost stalling on some hills because of the strong wind. That and the home made rear brake cable broke when I tried to do a donut at my nana's house. People didn't believe me when I told them where i'd driven from . Why not, it's only half as fast as a car?

Saturday was blowing alot harder than yesterday. Regardless I still drove my 'ped to work. Your IP says .home.cgocable.net Does cgo stand for Chicago? Maybe we can ride if your not too far.

You should also try emailing Peggy; she posts in the forum sometimes and is having a hell of a time getting registered. I'm sure she'd appreciate the help.

Maybe you can all start the Chicago moped army branch if riding goes well!

A 100K trip is a pretty good haul, wouldn't that equate to about 60 miles on this side of the "Pond". Do you live in the UK? I have some cousin's in the UK in the west country and have used a ped when I visited them to get around in Weston Supure Mare outside of Bristol.

Re: long trips

I think .home.cgocable.net is from Canada, cuz here in Canada there's a cable company called cogeco cable and they offer cable internet. And we also use kilometers so that's another hint...

Re: long trips

and he used "britspeak" if you pay close attention ... so if not from england, then from canada. but not anzac, that's for sure.

but it's awesome that you took a long trip, jon. truly awesome.

yep

Re: i'm from canada

Well, every weekend I do 180km (360 both ways) back and forth from collingwood to cambridge ... [the hamilton kid knows the way]. And let me tell 'ya that the bi-turbo sure helps out.

My next upgrade is for lowering my frontal area .. ie/ sitting in the u of the bike (laying back) with feet up near front wheel. It looks like a pretty basic modification ... so i'm planning on adding a shell to enclose the bike as well.

I've talked to Peggy on how she should have gotten the title w/ the bike and talk to the place about it. When I got my bike( from heeters in IN) they forgot to give me the title. I eventually got the title from heeters but the sec. of state wouldn't believe a 1998 bike had only 1 mile on it(in the year 2000). So I had to send a form to heeters and have them sign a paper stating it and then I finally got my license from the sec of state. Peggy is a little to far from me to ride my moped to. I don't wanna get ran over.
