Hey Justin how fast do you want to go?.. you need to keep in mind that speed is not cheap, my engine alone costs more than a brand new Tomos or Puck but from 0 to 75 in 10 seconds, i am quite satisfied with my beast..... Maddog Andy
I know nothing about Tomos, but Moped Bill recently helped my 70s, slow Puch Freespirit (we're talking LOW end - no suspension) go a good five miles an hour faster. So rest assured that if you're willing to put in the work (or find someone to do it for you) you can make even a cheap, slow old moped go a reasonable 35. I don't think I'd even want to do 75, considering that my poor bike would probably fall apart.
Either/or - they are both Solid, Solid, Mopeds....easy to get parts for, work on, etc.
Tomos has a slightly better part availability in some areas, and Puch in some areas has more part availability.
It's Six o one, half-dozen the other, really.

What motor is that, sounds nice. In a ped ???
Get anything w/ a Minarelli engine. It's a solid, simple, strong engine. When it comes to mopeds ... you have to go Italian!
Ciao, caro!
o to 75 in 10 sec sweeeeeeeet
well, didn't tomos start out from puch, or something like that? anyway, the pedals on a tomos are inside the engine, but the pedals on a puch are separate, so you can still ride your puch without the engine, you know, just in case your car is broken and you don't feel like walking to the tractor supply to buy type f, both are good and fast
clearly you've never actually tried to pedal a moped any long distance...
alex... that is the dumbest thing I have ever read.
tomos started in yugoslavia
puch started in austria
tomos might give you the cheapest most reliable speed, a pipe and a carb gets them to 40-43
a puch needs a kit a carb and a pipe to hit 45 or so
on a puch the problem is the porting limits the speed. so if you know how to port and engine you might get better results with the stock cylinder.
Actually, the first few years of tomos mopeds were commissioned by puch.
old thread guys...like really old.
Tomos was licensed to manufacture MS50's long ago, so Alex isn't off base.
In stock form, both are good, pretty reliable mopeds with solid designs and build qualities. You will never regret getting one with a tube frame and removable tank, though. I hate having to drop the motor to get to the carb.
Yea, you guys are below the curve, Andy was hitting 75mph in 10 seconds back in 2001
0 to 10 in 75 seconds?
Puch Puch Puch
Just combine them. A3 w/ A35 con rod on a Magnum frame. Done.
^^^That just gave me a chub... ^^^
