Hey chris, This is where the starter spring should go. I guess it is like the Laura m-56 motors. I would like the spring and the cover for the clutch. Thanks Ben

Ben I will have the orignal part. The one on there appears to be home made. It should be made of spring steel and kick inwards toward the clutch where it makes contact with the starter clutch.

Btw that is not the M-48 it is combination of parts from the M-56 and the M-48. It should have the model number on a tag on the bottom of the engine.

Thanks for the reply Chris. you're right it is not a M-48. It says "Solex-Laura M-54 -08" on the tag. I could not find any info for it on the net.
some sort of hybrid you say?.
I know the spring on there is home made. unfortunately it came like that. I will call you on monday and order the new one.
