My puch takes 5 kicks to start

When my Puch is cold, I have to kick it 5 or so times to start it. When it's been running recently, it's fine, starts up.

I put a new plug in it, platinum, too. Didn't help at all. I think it's the points maybe?

But it takes a while to start when it's cold. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: My puch takes 5 kicks to start

Last winter my Motobecane sometimes just plan wouldn't start at all when it was cold. I'd have to run it down the block to get it to try at all, and sometimes just give up. Once it got running, it loved the cold - but it hated starting in it.

I never did find a good solution...I"m interested to hear what people's experiences have been.

Mine started that after I cleaned the carb once I think it has somthing do do with the venturi or that rod that goes down it.

Re: My puch takes 5 kicks to start

both puch peds i had started withen half a kick........i havent ridden my ped in like 4 or 5 days....i could go kick it once with no choke and it would fire right up

5 kicks isnt bad at all though...sometimes i would have to back kick my tomos up 10 times to start it in the winter, other times just once

Brian..... If its cold, it is common for it to take that long, especially if it is stored outside.

Nothing to worry about... that's what the choke is for.

Yeah, i was going suggest the choke. My bikes are practically unstartable in the winter without the choke.

Yours is stored in a garage Chuck. Brian's sits outside. Maybe you need a bigger jet Brian? They are only two bucks and it doesn't hurt to run a little rich in the winter.

Re: My puch takes 5 kicks to start

Actually a properly tuned 2 stroke will need the choke to start in cold weather. Brian, did you ever try the choke?

Re: My puch takes 5 kicks to start

I always use the choke when I am starting it cold. If I didn't use it, I'd probably never get it started.

Thanks for the comments folks.

platinum plugs suck because they have such a little electrode, and when some unburnt gas ar 2 stroke oil gets on the electrode it wont fire well or not at all.
