my headlight (85 QT50) is real dim when i am at idle but when i am at full throttle it is really bright, this has just recently started.. whats the deal?

That is normal- your bike isn't putting out enough current through the magneto at lower rpms to fully power your headlight... maybe you are just noticing it now because it is getting darker earlier?

Battery.

If the lights used to stay bright, and are now dim...

AND you have a battery (not all mopeds do).

Then it's probably low and/or dead.

Check it, and let us know.

There's a fuse in series with the battery. A blown fuse would immediately cause some or all of the lights to go dim and bright. I'm not sure if the battery powers the headlight. If it does, the headlight would also go dim and bright if the fuse is blown.

On my old QT, the headlight would run from the battery if the ignition switch was on, whether the bike was running or not. Once the bike is running, all of the lights work normally, but they do dim at idle if your battery is weak... but it shouldn't affect how your bike runs.
