Top-tank Club

I had an inkling to start a top-tank club, for anyone who is into top-tank bikes. Im guessing I am probably the only person in Sacramento with a top-tank ped, so I think a local club is unrealistic. Im thinking of a casual nationwide thing. I will probably silkscreen some t-shirts, make some helmet decals, that sort of thing. If anyone is interested and has some ideas, chime in. If you think its a lousy idea, chime in too.

I really like the stance of the top-tank bikes. The ride is more stable, the cornering is much deeper. They look pretty cool too. These are, of course, my humble opinions.

I like top tank mopeds too, they just feel more stable, and heavier duty. I also enjoy the extra room in the tank... I'd get a shirt or some stickers from you, and I think it's a cool idea to make them up, it doesn't neccesarily have to be a club. Just make up the stuff if you have the demand, and we'll buy it.

My Cosmo is a top tank, but I do miss my old Tomos Sprint. The step thru was just the right size for a 2 gallon plastic tank. Used the rubber strap I had holding the tank on to keep the pedals horizontal because I kept my feet on the back pegs I fabricated for it. Do the same on my Cosmo. But it has a 1.65 gal tank on top.

Ride is more stable than the Tomos was stock, But it can be improved the same way I did on the Tomos.

I'd like to see a top tank with a Revival type front end, but with a more sport oriented rake and trail sitting, stiffer springs, and more sport oriented shock valving. It'd f*+king Rock!

Re: Top-tank Club

TOP-TANKS RULE! They are strong, stable and the cruising range is fantastic! My Sebrings have a 2.6 gal.+ tank and that will get you a long way without worrying about fuel. LONG LIVE THE TOP-TANK! And YES! I'll buy stickers or logos! don-ohio P.S.: Faust,I was surprised that the Avanti Cosmo only had a 1.65 gal.tank, but that is STILL more than step thrus. don-ohio (:^D

Re: Top-tank Club

They do have a Revival top tank comming out. It's bad ass looking. I think it's for sale in Europe right now, but goes by a different name.

Re: Top-tank Club

Hey Kris,

I ONLY own top-tank mopeds (three of 'em). I have a 2001 Targa LX, a 2000 Avanti SuperSport and a 1977 Garelli SuperSport XL.

The t-shirts should read:

MORE GAS FOR YOUR 'PED ASS

Top Tanks of America/Moped Army

Everyone dig??

More Gas=Longer Ride

Re: Top-tank Club

I have a Batavus Regency with a top tank. It doesn't run right now, but when it did I loved it. You can crouch down low for minimum wind drag. I'd be in!

I am Brendan, not Justin. Oops.

Re: Top-tank Club

check out my friggin picture in the above post

The response is overwhelming!!

Well, that answers that. I'm going to silkscreen some shirts. Im going to try to get the longsleeve T-shirts. Im not sure of a slogan or name yet. The first batch of shirts will be less club-oriented, and more just top-tank oriented. The design will probably show a classic bike and a modern space-shuttle looking top-tanker, and will mention something about top-tank mopeds. Any photos would be appreciated, preferably of just your moped parked in front of a white or light background.

It will take me a couple weeks. When they're done, I'll sell 'em at cost. Im going to make large and XL. If anyone feels they need an XXL, M or S, let me know now.

If the whole thing goes well, I'll make some patches or buttons, something more club-oriented.

How 'bout a new-style top tank on one side and a classic old-school top tank on the other?

You could take a pic of a TT, run it through the neon effect in Photoshop and get a slick outlined profile of a bike.

(Check my profile pic, you'll see what I mean.)

Re: The response is overwhelming!!

It will likely by a 1 color silkscreen image, so I cant get too fancy. But I can use a photographic image. My wife is a photoshop wiz, as well as a close friend (who actually produces t-shirts for a living). The end result will be very nice.

Do you guys like a chest emblem front with full picutre back; full-picture front with slogan on back; or full graphics front and back??

BTW Stales- That is a huge assemblage of cymbals. Outrageous, man.

Re: The response is overwhelming!!

John Purchase /

My personal preferance would be either graphics on front and back, or a tasty graphic on the front and a slogan on the back.

Yeah, it's a decent array of cymbals.

I know, I know, the first step is admitting that you have a problem.

"Hi, my name is stales, I'm a Zildjianaholic."

I think this may have been posted before, but the streetmate is the new tomos top tank set to come out next year. It is their answer to the revival, top-tank style! Bitchin! slated to come out mid 2003.

That's bad!

Re: Top-tank Club

Man, that tank looks HUGE!

Streetmate

It's about time. I hope bikes in general take a turn this way. Ive never been real crazy about the TRON, 80's sci-fi look of the Targa LX bikes anyway. No offense to those who do like it.

Re: Streetmate

Freeman Montgomery /

think that's a targa tank there... on the streetmate, that is.

but that exactly what i'd want from tomos. w/ a 65cc kit pipe intake and carb. with the front disc, It'd be perfect.I'd buy it and have it delivered with the engine pre-built. a set of rear pegs and I'd be ready to go.

Don-O

haha Don i have 2.7 gallon space on my peds tank. I got ya bet! Man this ped is great except for the slow take off.
