tomos 70cc kit

has anyone had any luck with these kits. i asked the old lady who runs the moped shop around her about them and she said that it most likely wont ruin your moped unless u get a cheap version. well any feedback is well apreciated.

I seem to be the only one to ever have gotten one to work on a regular basis, and those kits have fragged at least four forum member mopeds, so they do not have a very good reputation.

Unless you are a very, very good mechanic who does not mind completely and totally nitpicking thier 'ped every single time they ride it, I would reccommend against it.

I have dismounted mine cause it's so much of a pain in the ass that way, and if you slack on the nitpickin, you frag the 'ped...so, off it came.

Stick with oversize carb, biturbo exhaust, 27/over sprocket for upgrades, it's suffciently powerful without a ton of constant work to keep it running right.

Cause of vagarities in the fuel, wear patterns, etc...basically you have to make that fuel mix perfect - or else, and there's more than just that, you have to get just the right plug, and might have to go through a bunch of them to get a correct heat range, and even keep an eye on transmission wear.

It's a right pain in the keister, and if you don't stay up top of it, well....

Too much work for the extra power, really.

Ah, therein lies your problem, Fox.

The Silver Bullet uses an A3 engine/trans...the kit is made for A5, and the A3 pistonarm is of incorrect size and length, damn...I wish the folks who sold it to ya would have caught on to that, or someone had told ya before it messed it up.

Hope your Puch works out ok, thier kit works with more or less any model, but doublecheck first, ok ?

Re: tomos 70cc kit

just tonight, i have RE-installed my kit, as it was taken off the last transmission it tore up. i have put it on the used transmission that i gto to replace the old one,m and up until 2night, i have been running only the original 50cc engine. For some reason, it was much slower than it was, and much slower than all my friends mopeds. So im back to the kit, and ill tell u how it goes! i guess i just couldn't stand my friends wasting from a stop light every time...........i can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they find out......

Re: tomos 70cc kit

yo im interested in getting a new targa lx and i wanna get the 70cc kit but the dealer im goin to buy it from says it isnt worth the hassle and that it is illegal to use on the streets. and also can the larger engine peices be covered so that it is not noticable to a cop.

I've done a bunch of research on this one-- Here's what I was told, and found out. This info is from a newbie, and the final word should go to one of the Tomos Masters like Ree.

I was told that the 70cc kit was a huge performance boost-I was also told that if this ped was my primary ride that I shouldn't do it-- the reason was too much wrenching.

Cops, Courts, DMV and the local City Registry are all usually pretty dumb when it comes to moped rules. I doubt they would measure an extra 20 cc. I would be way more worried about the extra repairs and more brake wear than the law. If you're doing 45 in a 20, you'll probably get a speeding ticket, with NO notice of your biturbo or 70cc.

And if you're polite and reasonable, you should be okay. If you're like me and can't help being smart ass and patronizing to cops, you could get written up for anything.

And a ticket is just a 'note' saying you need to be to court. When you go to court, bring the ped as evidence, and bring the judge outside to show him (with the OLD head back on it...)

Anyway, when you look the D.A. in the eye and tell him that's your plan, he'll drop it for sure. Or you could go demand a jury trial just to show them your cool ped. I'll bet if you explained that Chewbacca is not an Ewok (thus Chewbacca does NOT live on Endor) any jury would rule in your favor.

Back to the upgrade, I was told you'd have to learn to wrench your own bike if you upgrade-- no way around it.
