mayhem??

Does this moped army really cause trouble or is it just a name? I can't count the times I've been chased by the Po-Po, the moped is the getaway vehicle of choice for the hooded knights.

Re: mayhem??

We're more like vigilantes. Cops in Kalamazoo get along well w/ us. We're not punk ass kids ... just hard core kids on mopeds.

Re: mayhem??

I guess that describes me well enough "punk ass kid". I'm convinced that Gunnison CO has the biggest ratio of piggies to people around, they actually have contests to see who can pull over the most high school kids, makes it kinda hard to stay outa trouble.

Re: mayhem??

hey, i wasn't trying to imply you were a punk as kid. sorry if i came across that way. but get some kids together and ride. obey enough of the laws to not be a "hassle" and then vigilante it up against moped thieves and enemies.

btw, who are the "hooded knights"?

and stay out of trouble! ;-)

I guess that would make yours truly a bit of an odd man out.

I've been known to lay a bit of chain to folks who try pushin me around on the road, throwing things at me or my ped, etc ad-naseum.

It's not so much a matter of picking trouble, as putting paid to it immediately by whatever means, and if someone tries to make off with my favorite set of wheels - well, a trip to the emergency room is in the making...a form of 'education' as it were, of the impact-trauma methodology, also known as the Doc Marten Dental Plan.

Not so much any intent to cause trouble, like I said...but if someone else starts some, I figure most of us are quite willing to finish it for em.

Re: mayhem??

Hey, I never meant to imply that we (or I) wuss out or anything. I just wanted to make it clear that we're not punk ass kids. I don't look for trouble or anything or make trouble just to be an ass. But I do mean business when it comes to protecting my people, my turf, and my ped.

I just meant that we're not out there stealing kids' lunch money, harassing drunk girls, or anything like that. But we have been known to bring down vigilante justice on a few heads.

Let's see ... about a dozen of us chased some thief/vandals and swarmed them while we waited for the cops to come and take them away. Dan chased some drunken rabble in their car w/ his moped and then rescued a girl. Simon ran a kid down with his truck (the kid had stolen Simon's moped). Back some time ago some of them knocked a kid of his Razz thinking it was mine (mine was stolen at the time). I'm sure there are other stories ... So we're not wusses by any means.

But I guess I'm a bit of a pacifist at heart. And I'm not a big fan of starting trouble ... but finishing ... that's another story ...

Well spoken, Mig.

Guess I just happen to be a bit faster to come down with my bit of chain, but that due to 15 years worth of lack-of-patience with folks obnoxious to peds or pedders.

And theft attempts get a no-warning no-quarter double barreled rocksalt enema, and a stompin, if they're still there when I get downstairs...having lost most of my previous peds to vandalism or theft, I don't have much patience at all with that.

Re: mayhem??

I am a punk ass, but I'm also a pacifist buddhist type. It just depends on the situation and the people I'm with. I'm working on getting more people riding but there is such a lack of peds up here that I am reduced to making my own mopeds using lawnmower engines and such. As to "who are the hooded knights?" we are a group of pot smoking high schoolers who wear hooded sweatshirts with custom self designed logos who hang out at the park and play hack.

Re: mayhem??

Right on Beanie and Ree. I'm glad we're all on the same page. Except for the pot and hack thing. I never really got into that myself. But when you first posted and said "hooded knights" and running from cops I had this image of really horrible Slim-Shady-wana-be white-ass ghetto kids running around being real assholes. But I'm VERY glad to know that's not the case. ;-)

OK, so you're having trouble finding mopeds? In Colorado that might be a problem. I haven't seen too many posts from people around there. But check eBay all the time. And know that shipping is often not very bad at all. Especially if you use Amtrak; and I think there must be a station around you somewhere.

There are TONS of mopeds in California, which is rather far away, but you could get some kids together for a road trip and hit some up that way. Or go north, there's a store (Scooter Therapy) that sell repaired old mopeds in Madison, WI.

But you can also check around the Moped Army buy/sell forum. There's some action that way. Also, check Excite classifieds. I've seen some CO, MT and other listings for sellers. The more you ask around, the more they might come out of the woodwork. Mopeds were really, realy hot in the 1970s. Especially among people concerned w/ gas prices and the environment. Unless things are not what I think they are, I think that might mean there should be some in Colorado, right? After all, I know John Denver would've loved mopeds! ;-)
