I don't have an answer for you..............just a question ? What size engine do you have ?

Did changing the exhaust make that big a difference?

I have a Honda Spree 49cc 2 stroke that I would love to make faster, but I don't know how to do it.

Can you give me any suggestions? Thanx

Spree speed.

Dave... The problem is that the Honda built a Spree to conform to US "Moped" laws... 49cc, 1 speed, 2HP, 30 mph... So Honda made the complete engine system to conform to that. (though i think a Spree shows 32mph on the speedo)

... Yet it would be just as easy for the manufacturers to make a 49cc, 1 speed, 7HP, 50mph engine system.

But if they do... It has to be licensed as a motorcycle, and ridden (by law) only by somebody with a full drivers license and motorcycle qualification.

Yamaha, Derbi, and Aprilia already sell them here.

But for you to turn your Spree into a 7 HP 50mph bike... You would need to re-do the entire engine system ....Air filter, carb, reed valves, cylinder, piston, head, exhaust pipe, and muffler.... Also, gear the "torque converter" double pulley system up higher.

The easiest way to faster is to get a tuned exhaust pipe for it (if they make them)... But you should be aware that it will only go faster by revving higher... And I broke a crankshaft doing just that.

Some of the Euro manufacturers (Tomos in particular) have produced peds that exceed the Government rules.... I don't know how they did that, but it doesn't bother me.

I'm betting the guy who asked the question about a 55 MPH Yamaha Slider is not in the US.

I know how to make your yamaha go faster if you answer my earlier questions.

??????????

Who were you talking to?... and ...What earlier question?

Hi Fred,

It was a question that I asked him yesterday in "fucked up moped laws".

There was a story in ABC News about it and I thought it might pertain to mopeds. I wasn't sure and you can't always believe the "press".

I wish I would have saved the story.

Its a excellent bike....ive got the black version....when i first got it it went about 35-40mph with v.good excelleration...best bike to learn how to wheelie on aswell...ive crashed it twice and theres no marks as its basicly crash proof..im always getting people looking at my bike when i ride past. Ive de-restricted it now and it does 55 - 60 mph with a 0-30mph in about 3 second....its the most customisable bike on the market and its a rare bike...im the only person in cambridge with one. Good luck with it mate...mail me if you want any more info..

Yep, it's true, I love mine. I can outrun most superbikes on my way in to work from Finchley to Clerkenwell and they get really pissed off ( you can get through much smaller spaces than most other scooters - especially those daft silver aprillia ones - they are for girls). I haven't got wheelies quite right yet, and i'm not sure about 60mph, more like 50 downhill (mines de-restricted), does it go faster with a diff. exhaust?

Cheers

Yeah - I've had one for a year and they're wicked. They do 35mph restricted but if done properly, a de-restriction made mine go up to around 45mph. You can buy loads of accessories for em and I recommend the loevincci exhaust or ninja exhaust systems with perhapps some sort of clutch system which makes it go about 55mph. They are great fun both on and off the road and I always managed to out accelerate cars from the lights - a real good buy
