OT: Anyone like Pho?

mandy panda /

I love pho. I made some (sort of) from scratch last night and it turned out real well. Ingredients:

- 2 boxes chicken broth (I cheated)

-2 caramelized onions in olive oil

- four cloves garlic, cooked golden but not burnt

- 1 leftover chicken breast, sliced

- 8 brown mushrooms, thinly sliced

- 3 bay leaves

- 1 tablespoon of dried lemon grass in a teaball

- 3 tablespoons of hot chili sauce/hoisin sauce mix

- 12 oz of cooked shrimp

- 1 lb of shrimp/pork dumplings

- half-pound of sliced bok choy, leaves on

-1 tablespoon of sesame seed oil

- 1.5 cups cilantro leaves

I simmered the onions, garlic, mushrooms, lemon grass, bay leaves for 45 minutes after the boil, pulled out the lemon grass teaball, then added the dumplings after the broth boiled again, cooking until they floated, then the shrimp, bok choy, cilantro and and sesame oil two minutes before serving.

Hoisin/chili sauce to taste. Made 6 big bowls. I swear it was better than the stuff you buy in restaurants.

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

I just go down to the local Vietnamese Pho noodle house.

i get the bowl with the rare and the braised beef... extra basil pls.

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

where's the beef? or tofu? I'll order either of those before shrimp pho. but to each their own.

I'm getting hungry.

Pho is phocking awesome.

I am also a big phan of Indian. North Indian, South Indian, don't matter to me.

in there. Just a little.

Re: vim, you need a little cinnamon

shabu shabu, 'nuff said.

Re: vim, you need a little cinnamon

Soto Ayam. Similar dish, Indonesian style. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. So delicious. A spoonful or two of sambal on top and you're good to go (sambal terasi, not that kinda lame sriracha type).

U-m-m-M-m, I dream of butter chicken.

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

If it's Indian, Ill take lamb vindaloo, preferably with a good kick to it. Makes me want some right now.

Also you made me want to make butter chicken tomorrow night, which I think I might go prepare. Gotta marinate that stuff forever.

I forgot to qualify my previous remark: vegetarian, non-vegetarian, don't matter to me.

it should have been done. and it should be done in the winter at some point.

also, to add to your list of cities San Francisco.

i'm way too excited about this thread.

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

and a fuck yeah on that ethiopian note

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

I love pho too hehe. I swear within a 5 mile radius from my house i have about 15 to 20 pho places i'd estimate, but i usally go to the same 1 or 2 all the time. There is halfway decent asian food here in colorado.

My favorite thing to do is smoke a bowl, eat some pho and watch the snow fall since i can't ride in it : (

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

Re: OT: Anyone like Pho?

Los Angeles has great pho restaurants . One of my friends wants to open a pho restaurant called "pho-gina". It was funny until he wore it out.
