Found tracks to race at starting a racing club!

After reading the Ny moed racing page I did some research. I live in Pennsylvania I found 3 asphalt tracks that might be available for racing: I need all of ou out there if you want to race to help me establish a moped racing club and racing series. If we get at least 20 + people We can have a club, That way I could contact the tracks to let them know were serious. The tracks are all located in northeastern Pa. That way It would be easier for ppeople from NJ, VA, NY, Ohio, and the surrounding areas to race. Now for the club and the rules.

There are no dues for the club, There will be a bimonthly newsletter, Most of the tracks want us to sign liability and waiver forms. 18 or over, or parents consent. I would like to have 6 races between april and septeber. Each race would have a $20 entrance fee for trophes ect. + It might cost to use the track.

Rules: Have 2 classes a 50cc stock class, and a 65cc to 70cc super moped modified class, top of the line bikes, speedkits, carbs, pipes, u name it. The proper safety equipment , full face helmet, leathers or suit, boots, and gloves.

The bies can or cannot have peddles.

This is just a brief summary of what I have in mind, If anyone wants to join email me directly, Tis isnt a joke, We have the whole winter to start tuning our bikes. Let me know so we can get organized.

Sounds good, I would have to find a way to transport the ped, and I should probably get around to giving it a tuneup/front brakes. I would like to, but at this point cant commit to it. Good luck though.

count me in!!!

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

I want to get in on the racing excitement too. but I want to get rid of this hangover first.

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

I have a question about this racing thing. Are the people going to get money for winning the race? Like in street racing? Or will we get trophies?... And will there be 1st,2nd,and 3rd trophies?...

You should also have a place where people can show off their moped, and look at others. Upgrades and ect.

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

for 1,2,3 were going to be giving trophoes out "podium". And if we actually get a series going there will be points given out. There are no dues for the club, The only money needed will be for the use of the track, and Id like to have a bbq at the end of the season. As for showing off the bikes We will have a pit area were if people want to they can show off there bikes, Some may not want to reveal too much about their Mods though. It would be cool if IKe or chris from MWH could bring a van up with racing supplies, or spare tires to the race. Im going to contact the tracks on monday, were working on it!

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

Would this be like an all day thing?... If it was, we should have a bbq every race, because it seems that these races would be rare.

We have an 1/8 mile dragstrip here in Greer, SC, where they race twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays. They also drag race motorcycles... I thought it would be fun to get some moped drags going on out there...

Of course, here in SC, 50cc scooters are also considered mopeds, so older mopeds may have to have thier own class, since they can't keep up with the scooters... ;^)

Sorry Don-O!

How Long is the track?

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

I was just thinking that it would be cool to have some drag races on peds, maybe a weekend of racing, oval, street course, and drag.

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

This would be from 9am to 3 or 4 pm, we could have a bbq at the races, Also the drag racing would be cool too, The tracks are standard go kart tracks, 3/8, 3/4 and up to 1 mile. Keep the suggestions coming. I just got my mb5 running and does that thing FLY!!!!!!

How fast?

Matt Lorence /

How fast do your mopeds go guys? Im hittin 25 now, but it should go faster once tuned up, and I could always play with different sprocket sizes

Re: How fast?

I am hitting about 35mph right now, but I am going to give it a tune up. All I have is a bi-trubo. Everything else are stock parts.

Found tracks to race at starting a racing club!

northeastern pa?!?!?!? ever hear of pike county?

pike county

Where at in pike county, what track?

2 tracks said no

I called 2 tracks in s. western pa, the they thought I was kidding, They came up with all these excuses about insranse, and only allowing 2 races, and a estimated prce tag of $700 to rent the track for the day, since they have other racing scheduled. Im still looking for an asphalt road course to race on smaller than 1 mile. If any one can help me find one thats available and will let us race let me know I will be searching!!!

alternative to a track

Matt Lorence /

Not quite as cool, but what about setting up a road cone course in a Walmart parking lot? Big lots, not always filled, pitch it to them like its gonna attract more business if they let us use a section of their lot. What do you think?

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

Good idea, would all u be willing to come to Pa If I found a track set up in a parking lot

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

that sounds really cool, I live in ct and would consider the drive.

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

If we did it, would it be like a straight race?...

We should get a race one day, and a show the next. Have like a camp out too.

Me and some friends are interested in doing this race wherever it is... If the race isn't a good track, i would still go, just to see how everything is, and meet new people.

P.S. I will still look for places to race...

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

I'm game to come up for a visit

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

i emailed a track here this weekend and the manager wants me to call him. he seems interested im calling tommorow, i will post the results.

I just want to race...

I just want to race. I am East Coast Pa isn't that far... hell I drove from Va to Md to buy my ped in the first place

Yep, done that...

I've "borrowed" some large store parking lots in my time for such a purpose, often with (tho sometimes without!) the consent of the business at hand.

For a more organized event, I don't see too big a problem with contacting the management and arranging for liability waivers and perhaps a small rental fee.

It's doable if you can find a manager willing to negotiate.

I FOUND A NICE BIG PARKING LOT!

I took a ride last night to find a parking lot, I found the perfect place. There is an old shopping center that closed last summer. It had a kmart, grocery store which I used to work at, Now it only had a dollar store, radioshack, and a blockbuster video. They also freshly paved it too! Its about 1/3 mile wide, and almost 1/4 mile long, No one would bother us if we rode in the back and used part of the front parking lot. Te track would be in the shape of an L. Also we could use it to drag race on. I really dont think anyone would bother us, since the place hardly gets any buisness. Its in Wilkes Barre PA. And if jakes deal goes through with the track in NY we have another place to race. Let me know what yu think. There are alot of hotels too in the area to stay at.

Re: I FOUND A NICE BIG PARKING LOT!

If I were the property owner, closed or not, I would not allow any type of racing at all, due to liability concerns.

Of course....You could just swarm the place and get out before they realized.

Like the OLD SCHOOL rave culture where parties were always illegal, and there were 4 or 5 backup spots everyone would re-assemble at.

I promise you, they won't let you race there, if they know about it.

Not trying to rain on your race, but property owners are funny about liability.

dirt trails

there are a few dirt trails around here that we could race at, one is actually right next to a lot where they have car shows every sat night.

Re: dirt trails

Matt Lorence /

I learned my lesson, road tires+30mph/dirt road=road rash Still pickin the rocks out

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

Jake Rutter /

im still looking for tracks. am i right in assuming everyone prefers an asphalt track? anyone interested in racing please go to www.geocities.com/yamaqt50 and sign up, its free. we will have a better chance of getting a track or even being taken seriously if its not just "some guy" calling up.

Re: Found tracks to race at starting a racing club

where would you be holding the races?
