OT - Guinness plastic floatie thing

So, in a bottle of guinness, what's the plastic floatie thing for? I'm guessing it's to keep it from spilling all over when you open it or something like that. If so, it doesn't work very well.

Anybody know?

Its the o2, thats what gives it the head.

Re: OT - Guinness plastic floatie thing

it releases pressure into the beer when you open it, it's called a widget.

they make excellent tops!

it actually makes the beer spill MORE, as it's supposed to replicate a draft beer...

They put em in Boddington's and a buncha other beers.

Re: OT - Guinness plastic floatie thing

it's called a widget, and it's actually a mix of CO2 and N2 if it's Guinness Draught, but if it's the Extra Stout it's just CO2.
