SACHS 505/1a

Hi , I am new here and new to mopeds, I have always worked on and around old trucks. I have a 1978 Columbia Commutor, it has a Sachs 505/1A with a Bing 85/12/101a carb.. What is the rated power , is this a two speed trans ( it feels like it shifts about 10 MPH )? What shoud I put for oil in the clutch cover, and what and how do I put in the gear box. how can I get more power from the ol girl, I also would like to find a new old stock petcock. Thanks for the help.

Re: SACHS 505/1a

It's a one speed. Fill the clutch and tranny- it's all one - thru the plastic cover screw on the side with transmission fluid, it doesn't matter what type.

Petcocks are available at handybikes and other moped shops.

It probably goes about 25, and there are several ways to increase the performance, your best bet is to search the performance section of this site for Sachs info.

WOW, I picked the right place to ask for help. Thanks

Hello,

There are 70cc kits available, you can put on a bigger header and pipe and larger carb and be in the 50+ club before you know it...

I loves Sachs, most dont...

Re: SACHS 505/1a

Thanks I just spent 98.00 on all the parts from bing to rebuild the stock carb just to ride it with out trouble for the first time and I don't know much about these but that little Sachs with 1889.3 miles runs Great and pulls my 235LBS pretty good.

You asked good questions with nice details. We kinda like that. But there are knowledgeable addicts here.

Enjoy the ride.

Re: SACHS 505/1a

See if you can return the parts. You can get a brand new carb for less and it will perform a lot better. You can flip the intake around to face forward and put a dellorto 16mm carb on there. You will have to modify an exhaust to fit that bike. Get something Tomos its on the right side of the bike.
