Motobecane 50 cuts out

Hi-

Just got a Motobecane 50 back together and running. It runs alright, but after it reaches top speed, the motor will begin to cut in and out, i.e., It will not cruise at top speed for more than a couple of seconds. Fuel is flowing fine through the petcock, and I just cleaned the carb. What else could it be? Thanks!

Hi,

me too I am having the same problem on an old motobecane. Did you check your fire of your spark?

The float level in the bowl could be too low, thus not enough gas to support the increased throttle. Pull the float out and check to see that the float sits about halfway down the needle. There should be as much needle above the float as there is below it. If the float sits low on the needle, not enough gas can get into the bowl.

clean your air filter? At full throttle, it might not be able to pull enough air into the engine to keep it running well. Possibly the other end too, I bet if the exhaust isnt exhausting, then its not gonna be able to pull in fresh air. These would both probably show signs at any rpm though, so maybe one of the moped genious' here can answer better. Maybe I just like to type.

AH HA! I need to try that, that may be part of my problem...
