I looked at a Revival last year, and would've bought it if I'd've had the funds... but...

It's definitely a good looking bike. Electric or kick start, big tires, disc brakes...

The gas tank is not actually a gas tank. It contains the battery on the right side, and is empty on the left side, and it's made of plastic. The real gas tank is actually located under the seat.

There is not yet a source of aftermarket parts for the Revival (unless you have something custom made), and I think it tops out at around 32mph right now.

Lots of plastic. If you can keep it inside and avoid wrecking it, and you don't mind the top speed, you'll be ok. Otherwise, I'd go for another model Tomos, or another older, more established bike... If you find something you like, ask around here and see what kind of feedback you get.

Or, go for a scooter, preferably a Japanese model. You can always get parts for them, and they tend to be faster than most mopeds. (Anyone want to flame me? I'll meet you at the race track!)

Re: ANYONE GOT THAT NEW TOMOS REVIVAL??

Natalie,

The Tomos Revival has "no equal" in the moped world!! And Tomos quality is second to none.

You can email these 2 guys to get the real story. They are both proud Revival owners! lstoltz@mis.net is Lenny Stoltz and dstivers@senco.com is Dennis Stivers.

You can visit my web site WWW.IKESBIKES.COM to see both of these guys and their bikes on a 73 mile ride we had 2 weeks ago.

Natalie,

I agree with Ike. There is no equal to the Revival. It is a nice, solid, good looking runner.

I was originally turned off by the plastic on the bike, but having seen one in person down in Ocean City, MD, I can say that I wish I would have gotten one now. The plastics are very high quality. Hell, even my new Honda Metro scooter is built of mostly plastic, which is the same quality as the Revival, so I think you'll be happy.

It isn't SUPER fast stock, but it will get out of it's own way, and when performance stuff is out, it is gonna scoot! (no pun intended here).

The 2 speed tranny is nice as well, though after having a variator, it would be a tough decision. I like the Revival, and could kick myself for not getting it.

Maybe at tax time, Ike! Haha...

Itslookingup is lenny's user name.. he has a bi turbo on his revival.. its super cool

I have seen those bikes on a few occasions, and i am turned off by the style of them. They seem to be designed for middle aged yuppies to park either beside thier newly purchased Harley, or as filler untill they get them. It really seems just too "retro" wannabe motorcycle style. The fake gas tank is really lame. It seems to be an effort to have all the appearance of charector without actually having any. I tend to find myself ragging on Tomos mopeds in general however. They are the best new mopeds available in the US today, which is just depressing when you look at the original pool of manufacturer's there were to choose from. All their bikes seem to be geared towards people who wish the had motorcycles but have to settle for a moped.

Re: ANYONE GOT THAT NEW TOMOS REVIVAL??

Dan,

I think you are right to an extent about the "motorcycle" image. Their two high end bikes are designed to look like larger bikes. I think their marketing department has this idea that Americans will only buy something that looks like a Harley or a crotch rocket. Top tanks aren't popular in Europe because they look "American"...

I don't care myself.. a moped is a moped, and I would ride the Revival and be proud to do so.

Its all in the marketing any more. They gotta make what sells, and with most people that aren't hard core about it like us, the faster it looks or the more bad-ass it looks, the better it sells.

Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

Harley Davidson is going through the same thing with their new "V-ROD". The 1960`s "Hells Angel" types hate it! Thats because it is such a radical departure from the normal Harley image!

But the "bean counters" at Harley could care less!!! They sell for around $25,000.00 and they can`t build`em fast enough!! The "big buck" lawyer and Doctor "yuppie types" are fightin over`em!!! And Harley Davidson is lovin it!! Screw the Hells Angels!! They can`t afford a V-Rod anyway!!

So, Harley Davidson and Tomos, are trying to build something for everyone!! And thats just good Business and i personally think its just great!!!!!

Re: Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

Actually, I kinda like the V-Rod, because it is different. I used to love Harleys, but there are so many of them around nowadays with yuppies on them, wearing full leather in the middle of 100 degree summer heat, I'm not so sure I like them anymore. I think I'd rather have an old beat-up Goldwing.

Ironically, the gas tank on a V-Rod isn't really the gas tank (like the Revival), either. The gas tank on a V-Rod is also located under the seat.

The difference is, a V-Rod will smoke all of the older Harleys, but a Revival won't smoke all of the other mopeds. Its all show and no go.

Natalie,

The main reason I bought the Revival was that I knew I was going to mod it to 50 mph. It has the frame, suspension and brakes to handle 50 mph. I'm not in love with it's looks although it does get a lot of attention. I have other peds, a Silver Bullet, a Puch Koroda, a Honda PA50, a Rizzato Califo, a Piaggio Ciao, and a Peugot 103. They can't handle the vibrations of 50 mph, stop quickly and safely at 50 mph, or handle a pot hole at 50 mph. I'm not saying the Revival is all that. But, if you want a new ped it's the best thing out there (in my opinion). With a custom Bi-turbo I'm toping at 42 mph on flat level ground. I am trying to leave the jug and piston stock and will be messing with the fuel next. Show me another ped made for abuse and I will buy it also.

Re: Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

Over 40 with nothing but a Biturbo and the stock jet is pretty fast for a moped that heavy! Ask DON-O! He got his doors blew off by a Revival!! And Don`s bike has a 60cc kit on it!!

And yes, Don weighs 235lbs. But the extra weight of the Revival and Lenny ,the owner made it about equal!

And you are right about the V-rod`s gas tank being under the seat. Also The 1500 Suzuki Intruder has the same arrangement! And just about as much plastic!!!

Re: Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

Natalie,

I should have added that if you are going to ride long distances get the top tank. The extra fuel will be needed. Ask Don-O. The Revival has about an 80 mile range. Don-O could fill my tank 3 times. Screw what the european's buy! They are crammed up with shorter communting distances. The revival is a stand-out. I doesn't blend in with old school mopeds. It has a style of it's own. The Revival commands respect on the road where old school mopeds move to the shoulder. I love old school, mostly for their classic looks but I'm pretty open minded about style and enjoy the looks of the Revival also.

Re: Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

Just to clarify my position, I like the Revival. I like the big tires, the disk brakes, the chrome, etc. When I was looking at the Revival, I was picturing saddlebags and a windshield, maybe a trunk, too. I think that would make an awesome looking ped.

I just don't want to buy one till some aftermarket stuff comes out for it to make it faster. I'm used to 40mph on my '87 Elite (ugly as it is).

My tomso always breaks

Second to none quality? Everyone with tomos targa lx around here, the plastic panels vibrate like HELL, fairings crack, my rear shcoks just "broke" that spring inside the a 35 trans always breaks, tail light is consitently vibrating, front shocks get stuck, mabe i just got a lemon?

Argg, my puch just doesnt let me down.

Tomos mopeds have a nice look and all, and there isnt much other choice for new mopeds, but the quaility is definately not up there.

Re: My tomso always breaks

Hey lenny concerning your and I qoute

"Show me another ped made for abuse and I will buy it also."

You've already seen it once... Don't make me try and drive it up there to ya...... Ike even told me he might would take it in as a trade in. LoL

Ah.. I'm givin yall hell....

Actualy I would love for some people here to find a Casal k196 like mine or its cousin a Zundapp so we can work on figureing out mods and tuning.

I know my casal can do 45 I just can't seem to get it there just yet.. lol... Maybe one 70cc kit and that 20mm carb upgrade for the 50cc Zundapps will have me flying.

(i'd settle just for a bi turbo)

Re: My tomso always breaks

ItsLookingUp /

Your right duck. If I could find another Casal, I would buy it!

About the equalness of weight.

Ike, Doesn't Don Ohio's moped have 25,000 miles on it? What shape do you think the revival will be after that much mileage? Also don Loads his moped down with just about everything but the kitchen sink and has a huge motorcycle shield on the front of it. making it about as aerodynamic as a school bus.....

Re: About the equalness of weight.

dont worry bout anthony lenny.. hes just player hateing.

Re: About the equalness of weight.

ItsLookingUp /

He's right about Don-O. Don carries about 24 pounds of fuel and a sack of road supplies that probably accounts for an additional 10 pounds (wrenches, soda, dog spray, etc.). He also has a huge windshield. For the record the moped he was riding on Ike's ride had 22,000 miles on it and it ran like a dream. I've already addmitted this to him so I should admit it here. I didn't see it as "blowing his doors off", from my perspective it was "stay in a tight crouch to catch him!!!"

Re: Anyone got that new "V-Rod?

gimmyjimmy /

I test drove a V-Rod last month at a dealership open house, that thing flies, I got up to 85mph in what seemed 2-3 secs. but had to back off because of traffic.

I just wanted to test drive with no intentions of buying, it's fast, but FUGLY. Let the RUBs buy em up for status, they'll get tired (or scared) of them then sell it in a couple years.

The "hot new model" fad will wear off soon for the v-rod and revival, enjoy the sales now Ike. The Hell Angels can afford those bikes, but would rather just steal one, but probably not, like I said, they're F N UGLY.

I prefer the "old school" mopeds and Harleys.

Re: About the equalness of weight.

Lenny, you are the most modest guy I've seen for a while! You KNOW the Revival is the best NEW `ped out there! I have a 60cckit and you beat me `fair and square'(you are nearly as big as me). My next bike will be a `Revival' or something close. I DO want TOMOS to know that many of us Americans, like Ike said, want bigger fuel tanks.Who wants to stop for gas all the time on a 200 mi. ride? NOT ME !! Enjot that GREAT `Revival' ,Lenny! See you on Ike's next ride! don-ohio (:^)

Re: About the equalness of weight.

KelvinKDX /

After riding the Revival at Ike's last ride i will say that the thing is smoooth and that i was envious of it's braking power. Although - i would personally buy a motorcycle or an old ped - but that's just me.

If there is something that's not on Don's bike he will eventually add it!
