welding pedalshafts together for pedal clearance?

i saw this idea on some thread.

is it a good or terrible idea to weld part of one pedalshaft to another pedalshaft to create enough pedal clearance to fit a pipe?

is it worth the effort, or is it better off to just bend the crank arm or use spacers?

Re: welding pedalshafts together for pedal clearan

yea you can do that and i've seen it look very nice or, you can add material in the middle and use part of a old handle bar as a spacer.

if you choose the later make sure you grind all pieces to a point and build back up with weld as to prevent breakage.

p.s. it is kinda embarrassing when your fancy custom pedal crank breaks at a rally.

Re: welding pedalshafts together for pedal clearan

If you are good at metalwork you can bend a pedal crank form a "english bike" to fit. Usually they are pretty long, compared to a moped. If you need one for the right side you will have to remove the gears.

Re: welding pedalshafts together for pedal clearan

quickest easiest modification ever. works reall well. shouldnt break unless your welds suck.

whats not to like about it.
