EYE OH AH (Iowa)

Come late august I am leaving St. Louis to go to Grinnell College. While I still <3 I.R.E. and will hang out with everybody on breaks and during the summer (which is main ridin' season anywho) I still need to find some people to tinker/ride with.

So, is anybody out there in the corn? Even if you're not that close to Grinnell, let me know, there could be some sort of gathering.

Well, I can't blame you for leaving us for a town of 9k people, and a college with such illustrious alumni as a PETA vice-president, and a 1929 runner-up in the National Tennis Championship...

Wait, yes I can.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

What'd you do, wikipedia it?

No, I just know everything about every tiny town in Iowa.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

suck my bawls, you're just jealous that I'm CLEARLY bound for greater things than selling insurance or something.

What time are you going to mark's? I got me some sprickets and sprockets for the garell-ah.

Selling insurance would probably be better than my job...

I'll be there 5:30. The Dave is coming, so he'll probably get your gorilla running in .5 seconds.

Grinnell college is pretty awesome. Way overpriced though.

If you are into indie/dance music they have a TON of awesome shows there all the time. People drive there from all over the state because they are always free. I have seen Le Tigre, Rilo Kiley, The Gossip, The Elected, and a ton of other awesome bands there.

The town, however, is awful. Everything is closed at like 9pm and it's very dark and full of drunk rednecks. Luckily you are right in the middle of Des Moines and Iowa City so it won't be hard for you to get somewhere with cool stuff.

I know there are some dudes in Des Moines, Ames, and Iowa City that have mopeds but I don't know about Grinnell/Newton.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

Way overpriced, but the huge endowment makes for a financial aid party.

The town is very dark? Like, not enough lighting? If what the college says is true, there will be so much stuff on campus that I won't want to go to the town. As for moped meetings, how hard would it be to ride to Des Moines or Iowa City?

Tell those dudes that you know to email me, we should get some sort of meetup going. Are you no longer in Iowa like your profile says?

--Mike, I'll be there at like 7:00. I think I figured out what was wrong with it, the stator plate is put on wrong (the guy we bought it from did it not me). If Dave comes early, stall him until I get there. I want him around just in case it's not what I think it is.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

Dark as in places are closed with their lights off. Not much going on after 9 PM. It's Grinnell - it closes up early. Iowa, as a whole, is great though. I grew up in Iowa and have nothing but fond memories of it. My in-laws are from Iowa City so we still visit quite a bit.

Yeah, exactly what Bryan said. And yeah, you definitely won't want to go to town :)

Riding to Des Moines or Iowa City isn't out of the question, but it may be pretty difficult. From what I know there aren't many low speed roads that run east/west between there but I could be wrong.

I'll see what I can do about getting those dudes in touch with you. And no, I don't live in Iowa anymore. I moved to Wisconsin a week ago. I miss it though. Iowa is a pretty good place to live, it's just a bit on the boring side.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

iowa borders buffalo country, but i have no idea where Grinnell College is located.

come ride with us....

i say we do ragbrai next year.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

Grinnell is a great school, dude. I've been to a few shows there, too: The Books, Lali Puna, etc. I'm sure that there will be a few pedsters you could hook up with, and you could always start some sort of gathering once you get there with a couple of strategically placed flyers.

RAGBRAI! Came through my little college town today. My bro has done it a few times; I'd like to give it a try someday on my good ol' Bridgestone XO.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

grinnell has awesome free shows. insane shit goes through that college.

i live in des moines now, but i was living in iowa city, sometimes i'll ride up there or whatever and i can stop through next time since its on my way.

we really need to get an iowa meet together. the moped dudes are few and far between, a good ride would be a lot of fun..

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

If you guys don't mind, I think I'm going to compile a list of the email addresses of whoever posts on this thread or emails me that says they live in iowa. Let me know if you don't want to be on it.

I think that since that everybody is spread out we could do like a monthly meetup and ride or something. Just brainstorming.

Oh, and Souix Falls is a long way away, but if I ever make it up there (I'm planning on going to your rally, actually) I'll be sure to try to contact the buffalo boys.

If I put up fliers, I'll definitely get some scooterists. I guess beggers can't be choosers.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

we love rally company. it will be good to meet you.

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

Hi, I am from Dubuque Iowa. My email address is thz123@live.com. I would love to ride with a group of people on mopeds. I know 2 older guys (iam 50) in town who ride moped, no one else. I am quickly becoming the "moped guy" in town. I have a friend who has a scooter, and we ride together, its not the same. Scooters are all over Dubuque as of late, but scooters are for "girls" who wear skirts. I call them skirters.

Come to Dubuque for a ride, we have awesome hills (bluffs), and alot to do in town. Good food, 2 large casinos, and the National Riverboat Muesuem. Plus the town is very scenic!

Re: EYE OH AH (Iowa)

You think they will let you register a moped for RAGBRAI? That would be awesome. I remember back when I did like 4 in a row that I saw a motorized bike scream by when I was at Mr. Pork Chop. Maybe they'd let a moped if you just pedaled through the towns or congested areas.
