stock or mod?

just wondering, does anyone here actually keep their peds stock, or do most of you mod them as soon as you get them? i wouldnt mind keeping mine stock if it could get to the 30-ish mph it is suppossed to, right now it'll get to about 25 tops. it needs a new muffler which seems to be out of stock/discontinued everywhere, so i may have no choice about modding (if the guy ever gets back to me about a custom pipe). i know its not a "real" moped, but is the urban express deluxe worth anything as a collectors item that should be kept stock, or should i mod it till i'm out of $? seems like some people love them, and others hate them, keep your hate to yourself.

Re: stock or mod?

Mod it out. Express's are a dime a dozen.

Re: stock or mod?

mod it but make sure u get it running in tip top shape b4 u try anything drastic.

Re: stock or mod?

ride with, or ride a 'fast' moped and you will get your answer. it is a nice sensation to be able to cruise at a speed and then go faster if you want to. stockers you have to ride all on all the time to keep up.

Re: stock or mod?

I've never had one, but I have nothing against an Express, or any other noped. Hell, I even own a SCOOTER. An Express is not likely to become a collectors item any time soon. As for modding it, there are pros and cons. I have a stock Puch, which I believe IS becoming a collectors item, I have a stock Tomos, a slightly modded Tomos, and a fully kitted Tomos. The stock Tomos is an '03, has 16,000 miles on it, has been used mostly for all day and all weekend trips, and has been absolutely trouble free, and probably has a lot more miles left in it before it needs any major repairs. The slightly modded Tomos is an '08 Sprint, with only a Biturbo, Unifilter, rejetted carb, and 22 tooth rear sprocket. It does around 42-45 mph, and I mostly use it to run around town, because it will keep up with cars. I figure it will last maybe 10,000-12,000 miles of stop and go use before the bottom end and transmission fail. The kitted Tomos is an '01 that I bought with a little over 1000 miles on it, and was kind of beat up, ( mostly plastic parts ) but mechanically fine. It has a 70cc Airsal kit, 15.15 Dellorto, Unifilter, Tecno Estoril, and a 27 tooth front sprocket. It does about 50. I just bought/built it as a project, and something to play with, with my GWB money. I don't expect it to be reliable at all, and certainly would never leave town with it. BUT, I do have a cheap source for Tomos engine/transmission parts, some used, some new, that probably very few if anybody here knows about. So I can keep it going without going bankrupt, and it's not like I need it for transportation. And that is what it comes down to. If the Express is you main source of transportation, I wouldn't mod it to far. You can't have fast and reliable at the same time. Peace, Jerry.

Re: stock or mod?

what all falls into the "anything drastic" area? looks like pipe, airfilter, upjet is the first ting to do, am i right? mabe kit it later? any on the market pipes easily adapted to my bike, or should i just bug the guy who makes custom ones? on the stock side of things, i ordered new tires, tubes, break pads/cables, drive belt, headlight, just picked up new battery. gotta get safe before i get fast.

Re: stock or mod?

My Express runs 30 mph with no mods, if you can wait max 3 months, I'm sure you'll come across a stock exhaust on eBay.
