wow sucks for yall
wow sucks for yall
info gotten from mopedshop.com
If it is true, maybe tomos will just do a recall and weld a washer in the exhaust. Kind of silly to make a big deal about horsepower if its already speed restricted though. Or maybe people will lobby to change the horsepower limit? I wonder what the safety impact of restricting power and causing slower acceleration will be.
nj is rediculas
Hey, maybe I can get a gently used Streetmate for like $300 now. Hehe.
haha yea mines an 06 streetmate hopefully i dont get a notice or anything, and if i do im gonna fight it sense its 08 almost 09 and i bought it in 06 and they should have put the law in effect in 06 not 08/09
i doubt they will go through with this though
should be some nice new mopeds for sale soon.
nah tomos dealers are going to put a restrictor on it or somthing
theres going to be a way to reduce the HP
Got details of the law change?
Is this posted somewhere online? Could just be a scam for him to try and sell some of his "NJ compliant mopeds."
72 mph derbi, totally street legal. Give me a break. I would like to see this "list" before I freak out.
I bet if tomos really cares they will just throw some crappy pipe into production and slap them on bikes bound for jersey. Figuring everyone is just going to buy biturbo's or nexts or something anyway. Maybe there will be a market for my old stock tomos pipe now.
mopedshop.com has original story that i got it from
He must need to move some mopeds!!!!!
TOMOS Moped WARNING!
As many of you know, New Jersey DMV has diligently been working on it's "approved" list of mopeds.
ALL 2008 Tomos model mopeds and ALL 2007 Tomos moped models with the A55 engine (easily identifiable by the 2 bolt intake manifold) EXCEED the approved horsepower level set forth by NJDMV.
These mopeds do not meet the approved requirements for motorcycle registration either.
Very soon ALL registered owners of these vehicles can expect a letter from NJDMV revoking their registrations. These vehicles will no longer be legal for road use in New Jersey. And YES, they will pull registrations!
Several other states are following suit.
sooo silly. welp, you can argue for them to dyno your bike, and that will waste time, and make you sound right for a while, but this is bullshit ignore it, and ride anyways.
once again, silly.~SABAT!
if u ride you wont have plates cause they strip ure registration
When did Tomos start to use this a55 engine? If they have been on there moped for more years than the recall, get a frame of a legal year and transfer the parts to it.If this can be done, it is now not the engine being no longer legal, it is the frame.
just register these jawns in california or some other mail-in state. have a family member let you use their mailbox.
Are refering to use an out of state licence plate? If so, what will take place if you get pulled over, and show the man your license and it is for njj and the license plate is for california.
Is it really illegal to own an a55 now? If you really had to, couldnt you just register it as a motorcycle?
I knew the new '08 A55 was way different from the original. The A35 was way better than the original A55. My '08 Sprint averages 43 mph with nothing but a Biturbo, foam air filter, rejetted carb, and 22 tooth rear sprocket. No way is an early model A55 going to do that. I really don't think there are enough mopeds in AZ for them to care, AZ moped laws have not changed in over 30 years, and I doubt they will change now. Most polititians don't even know what a moped is, and they have more important things to do, like stuffing their pockets with bribes and kickback money. Peace, Jerry.
they have been talking of this for a while...to be honest, ill belive it when i see it
they might pull your registration, but they arent going to come around and take your plates. ride till you get pulled over then just plead ignorance. yet another reason i love georgia.
Another reason I`d rather be in hell with a broken back, than live in NJ.
Ike
Considering that most of the injuries of under age rider and legal age ride were on Tomoses .So, If it's true. It a knee jerk reaction from the state of New Jersey. The sad part is it not a problem with the bike . It's the rides going to fast or not knowing what they are doing . Here is the danger of being the only moped imported to the U.S.
where is this information actually posted? it seems plausible but i would believe the stuff i read on onion.com before i believed the stuff on the front page of mopedshop.com
yeah, i second that, sounds uber fishy.
i've never in my ENTIRE life heard of retroactive law changes from the DMV, even in a backassward state like NJ. in every single case ever, if a law is changed or altered, anything before that law is grandfathered-in.
Sounds like BS to me.
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Vehicles/mc_disclaimer.pdf
that's from the nj dmv website, and it's the only instance on the site where "tomos" is mentioned, "a55" isn't mentioned on the site at all.
and in this context, "tomos" is listed as one of the approved motorvehicle manufacturers for the nj dmv... a disclaimer provided mentions that this list shouldn't be construed as an "endorsement of any manufacturer or motorcycle model contained on the list," but it's a 2008 list, seems to show the dmv's acceptance of the brand in question.
where did mopedshop.com get his information?
Note how mopedshop.com also runs mopedswanted.com, maybe there is a big demand for used Tomos so by posting this they think people will get scared and offer them their A-55 powered peds for cheap. Then they turn around and sell them for profit later on.
