Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold Cup!

We attended the Annual Vintage scooter / moped rally in Boston today!

Tim, Sondra, Amanda, Steve Sabat, Joe Ho. Susan and me set out with a huge group of Vintage Vespas and a Lambretta or two and rode out along the Emerald Necklace to a Rallying point at Larz Anderson Park... where after a break and a chance to socialize with the scooter peeps we headed over along the coast to Castle Island for food and relaxation! All the scooter dudes were super cool and friendly.. in fact most of them had stories of owning mopeds as kids...

We really hit it off with them and they asked me to lead the ride from the beach back into downtown.... which is a route we take regularly on our Wednesday rides... quite an honor for the kHz!

Sabat Joe and Amanda came back to my place for a spaghetti feast and decided that since they were giving out awards for different classes and one of them was for mopeds... that we would head over to the bar in Allston where the party was and give the moped category a shot!

I wheeled out the red Sachs G3 that i had just reassembled the day before... Sabat rode my Magnum... Amanda rode Sabat's Tomos with Joe riding the Vespa LX50 and Tim and Sondra met us there!

WELL... needless to say the scooter peeps loved the mopeds... and we were awarded the Gold cup in the Moped category!!!!!

In other words we brought home the Gold cup (a tall can of WD40 with a mini Gold Loving cup on the top} for the kHz!!!!

It was a totally awesome experience... and we made a lot of cool friends... and received invitations to rally with them and wrench on future rides.... it was like history in the making and we were all super glad to be a part of it!

Amanda took tons of great pics and she willbe posting them tothis thread when she gets home!

I can't wait till next year's rally when we can really put together a huge swarm and ride with our new friends again!

Wah... apparenlty I need to figure out how to post photos as well.

Peep out flickr.com/photos/amandaxp for pics.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

make sure you paste in the url for the photo itself, and not the url for the entire flickr page for that photo. to do this, click on "all sizes," then select the size you want, then copy that url from the box below the photo, then post it here with the exclamation points.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

i wanna come down and ride with youguys!

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

i accidentally locked myself in my basement until 130am last night. right when i was about to cut the door open with a circular saw, i finally got through to my ex girlfriend who still has keys to the place, and she came and let me out. it was so embarrassing that i couldnt go to sleep for hours after that and, as a result, i wasnt able to function in any normal way today, much less ride a moped. that is one of the main reasons i missed this.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

sabat! thanks for taking sandra on the back of your tomos to lighten the load on my super slow batavus so in an attempt to keep the grande running a few mph faster.

amanda, great pics!

i had a great time even though i was dead last and/or lost with susan miles from everyone else

scooter people are all right ... i had a good time ... congrats on the award ... i totally missed the award ceremony last year when i was the only moped on the ride. congrats on the WD40!!!!!

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

and displacement!

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

please tell me that was a true story....

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

guys, youre talking to someone who got knocked off a speeding moped by a poodle, and had to spend the day in the emergency room. the story is 100% completely true. i was somehow locked in my own basement, which is impossible to do, and yet it happened. its sucked so, so bad, but was also hilarious.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

Daniel Van Donsel /

um.... Is it a basement or your personal dungeon?? :D

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

ha. no, but it is a private workshop, and the only way in is through my apartment.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

Daniel Van Donsel /

Incidentally... MAJOR props to Tim for suggesting this ride! It was a great time!

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

Tim is the social planner.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

super pricey batavus on craigslist mass

its 675, but look at it this way

its hundreds less then a 800 jawa with a gascan.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

im going to be selling my bat for a lot (hopefully), but ive also modded the hell out of it, and have crazy spare parts to go along with it. still, i fear that its probably just not worth selling.

Re: Boston Scooter/Moped Rally kHz takes the Gold

dude dont sell that, its beautiful.

There comes a time when you have put so much work and time and energy into a bike that its yours forever.

I imagine that was months ago or last year for ya.
