Since none of you seem to know who to spell I'm guessing you're all fucked. LOL!

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

hahaha i was going to go to be a eagle scout but you need like 500000000000000000 hours community service and one HUGE event you organize and oversee plus the packet and all the other shit...

really not worth it in my opinion since it doesnt do much for you.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

my dads forcing me 2 do it......

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

tell him it aint worth the sweat off your dick! haha

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

anyone who IS an eagle scout will tell you its one of the proudest achievements of their lifetime. once you get that fucking packet filled out you'll be able to sail through all the tax forms, college applications, loan paperwork, job applications, and other assorted bullshit that will dominate your adult life from here on out, with ease.

your dad is right, get your eagle, not only will it make you a better person, you'll have a shiny gold card to prove to everyone else you are a better person.

(yes you actually do get a real gold card, well not real gold, its plastic, but its gold plastic, and it ROCKS!)

O/T any eagle scouts here?

Ben,

I completed my Eagle about 40 years ago. For over 25 years I have had an Eagle certificate tucked up on the wall in my Dental office among some rather difficult to complete certifications and diplomas. Still, folks who see that little card there are most impressed with it, especially if they have a child in Boy Scouting.

Having the Eagle completed takes significant persistence, effort, and self-motivation on the part of the individual. You can stop now because it's too hard for you and for the rest of your life you will know that paperwork is tougher than you are. Or you can stick to the task and complete it, then you will always know you have the strength to set goals and achieve them.

All those other certifications I have took many years of much harder effort than the Eagle did, but the Eagle award is the first tangible demonstration you can make to yourself and others of your strength of character; as such it still impresses folks in the know more than any doctorate or board certification.

IMHO, Terry

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

My son Andrew, who got the family into mopedding last year, got his Eagle Scout last year. Now he's at the stage where he really doesn't want to have anything to do with scouting (upcoming senior). I'm sure later on he'll look back with pride at what he accomplished, and I know it will be a big part of college and job applications. My wife is the one that provided the persistent nagging to get it all done, and his twin sister has her Gold Award, the girl scout equivalent to Eagle.

It takes a lot of work over several years to reach that rank, and if you're at the stage where you just need to do your project, get it done! You'll regret it if you don't.

O/T any eagle scouts here?

Where is Peter from Ghost Riders on this thread?

My brother is an Eagle Scout and in the Order of the Arrow. I know he smoked a lot of pot, partied a lot while he worked at Boy Scout Camp.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

Yup. got Eagle a few years back. and my troop adds all sorts of extra required hours and badges. I cut it uber close too. almost didn't try then in the last few months threw everything together. my brother cut it even more close. he officially got it at 11:48 Pm the night before his 18th birthday.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

man i never made eagle. only made it to life.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

i never got to the first one :S, i was in the jungle :P.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

its worth it, i wasa scoutmaster for a time afterward

too much fun

its probably the easiest paperwork you have to look forward to filling out in the next 10 years so, enjoy

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

uhhh... pardon my ignorance. what the heck is an eagle scout? how does being an eagle scout make you all amazing and stuff? just wondering thanks.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

Sweet lord is this for real?

I quit boyscouts when the 'scout master' started getting creepy. Also he drank beer at 8am in the morning , and later got arrested for trying to kill his wife with a 2x4.

maybe its just cause im from a small town. But it was creepy.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

Kevin,

In Boy Scouts of America there are several ranks one can attain. Each rank has various requirements, each needing increasing skills, knowledge and work. Whether or not a boy progresses through these levels is dependent on him alone.

The last two levels are Life Scout, then Eagle Scout (just so you understand the post about life).

Being an Eagle Scout does not make you all amazing and stuff any more than being a Brigadier General does. Rather you must posses certain character traits in order to be able to complete all that is asked of you. You may have all those traits and much more, you may be a much better person and never become a Boy Scout or Eagle Scout... but cannot become an Eagle Scout if you lack those traits. Therefore possessing an Eagle Scout certification reveals significant traits in an individual which you would only be able to guess at in others.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

all this stuff sounds too dungeons and dragons for me, but i mean that's cool though. to each their own. thanks for the explanation.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

You should totally continue with it. I would have loved to be in boy scouts but obviously they wouldn't let me in. I tried girls scouts but unlike my troop I don't consider sleeping in a trailer and blowing your hair dry in the morning to be camping. Needless to say, I found better things to do. Both my brothers and my Dad are eagle scouts and it's really something to be proud of. If you let a little paper work and effort hold you back you will look back and regret it . My Dad is 55 and he still proudly displays his eagle scout award and puts it in his resume.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

The hell Andrew was you're scout master another Micheal Jackson /Jeffery dahmer wannabe or what?

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

yea man, don't let your peers distract you and don't do it because your parents are forcing you too. the packet is intimidating but becoming an eagle will be one of the most significant things you will every do.

if for nothing else, i'm glad i can put it on my resume for the rest of my life

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

i think i played a large part in noel's peer distraction while he was working on getting his eagle scout.

theres a story, but im gonna spare noel.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

Naw my scout master was the son of the local Diaper Guy ( you know the guy who drove around town and picked up the dirtty diapers and broght em back clean before pampers filled up landfills )

He also had this honda 750 4 that he used to insist on starting up dead cold and just REVVING the bad out of until the valves started to float , dead cold.

We all told him that wasnt a good idea.

He sheared his crank in the end doing it in front of like 20 people.

he wasnt "prepared" for the barrage of shit we gave him for that.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

a friend of mine is having her sons go all the way through eagle scouts. scouting for her has been a way to expose her sons to positive male role models.

the eldest son, who didnt have the best SAT's and high school grades, probably made it into the University of CA, Irvine due to having been an eagle scout. he has found a certain cameraderie when he meets other eagle scouts.

so, yes, it can pay off to complete this in more ways than one.

to each his own

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

laura,

what stopped you from joining?

both groups allowed the other gender to join back in the 70's.

my best friend was a girl scout and joined a group when she moved to massachusetts, but it was boring.

So she joined the boy scouts, and had better fun, camping and kayaking. she has since retired as a Lt in the coast guard and had a command of a ship and has a farm in WA.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

when i was young i was in indian guides, anyone remember that? i think it was mainly an excuse for the dads to smoke pot while we built teepees and started fires unattended. good fun.

Re: O/T any eagle scouts here?

Yeah i guess it was different in dif towns.

Our famous overrevving , drinking at 9 am scoutmaster also taught us topography and how to read maps and to use a compass then took us into the local woods and got us completly lost.

They had to send people out to find us.
