My roomie has a Maxi II already, and she while she was at work I came across another Puch, a Newport. I picked it up for her because I figured she'd want it.
It needs a lot of work, previous owner basically destroyed the electrical assuming the bike had an electrical issue and he didn't know what he was doing. It needs some restoration work too, a lot of rust on the chrome bits, but it's otherwise solid and the engine turns over.
So what's the difference between the two?
There really aint a difference between them two bikes. They really are the same bike just one has maxi stickers on it and the other has newport stickers on it. The reson they do that is so that they can sell more bikes.
That's what it seemed like to me, that's why I figured I'd ask. :-)
I've had both and the only differences between are color scheme and sometimes seat color.
A Puch Maxi and A Puch Maxi II are not the same. One has a one speed engine and the II has the 2 speed engine. The Puch Newport is the Spiderman model and could have the Hi-Torque engine, fork locks,reflectorized tires,Exterior Coiled Shocks, tool kit, hand painted pin stripes,special Puch logo on the gas tank. Depending on what year you have is the determaning factor that you have all theses features and the Puch Maxi does not these features.
That's odd, her Maxi II has most of those features you just mentioned, and the Newport does not. The Newport is a really nice color (deep maroon) but it's kinda rough. Brown seat also, but a big tear on it. It's a project and a half, but her other bike is totally fine and she wants to restore something. Well, now she's got it. :-)

maxi riders just get skanks--like really really easy girls that don't wear underwear because let's face it, they are just gonna get loaded, give it up to a guy whose name they don't remember (brad? chad? dad?) and forget them anyway

any Puch is good for a first restoration since parts are easily obtained, you're a good roomie.

Hmm. I have a Newport. 2 speed, 2 hp, high torque cylinder, still has the pinstriping. No girls notice it though. But they are all over my '06 Honda Met. Interesting. Peace, Jerry.
