New peds

Are there any company's besides tomos that sells new peds. I want to open up a dealership in my town but don't wanna sell tomos. Already a tomos dealership like 30 miles away and they told me they didn't need another one.

Re: New peds

Nope, Tomos is it, unless you want to deal with that Laser Baron whatever Chinese thing, but would very quickly get a very bad reputation selling those things. How about becoming a Chinese scooter dealer. Those things are selling like crazy around here, and dealers are popping up all over the place. Theres one just down the street from my house, and he claims he sells 10-12 a day, at anywhere between $300-$500 profit on each one. Even used car dealers have started selling them on the side, and probably make more money from selling those things than they do selling cars. Peace, Jerry.

Re: New peds

yeah dude you can order an unassembled Rocketa for 6 to 8 hundred.

Re: New peds

I can't do the chinese scooter thing. I have had some of these bikes from customers and let me tell you I just can't sell that junk. I don't want that kind of reputation. in my area.

Re: New peds

those rocketa bikes don't seem to bad.

Re: New peds

I wouldn't sell Rocketa or VIP or any of that Chinese shit if I were wanting to start a serious business, they break down constantly which is bad since the manufacturers don't offer parts. On a positive note though, if you own one, it's always easy to find a parts bike.

Chinese scooters sell like hotcakes, and will probably be a good product in a few years, but right now they're only worth selling if you plan on getting out of town before the shit hits the fan.

Re: New peds

Yea I don't wanna sell chinese junk! Anyone wanna get together and actually design our own bike and have them manufactured?

Re: New peds

Thats a HUGE investment...

Also you're risking alot of copyright infringement.

THeres a million and a half kinds of mopeds out there already.

If you do get around to that, Ill rep new MA custom shit for sure.

Re: New peds

Hero Majestic? Kinetic? Avanti? Those are just the ones that come to mind.

I here kinetics are okish if they are assembled by a competent guy, but on the down side they take about 4 hours each to assemble.

Can't speak to the hero majestic.

I hear avanti's have some components that are just made like bricks and others that are brittle as crackheads teeth. But no first hand knowledge of the last two.

Re: New peds

go to france. buy peugeot!

Re: New peds

In the US you've pretty much got Tomos, Velosolex or (old stock?) kenetic tfr.

Re: New peds

Bruce Edwards /

I'm looking into getting a manufacturers license to make peds. Who knows what'll happen though....

Re: New peds

hero majestics don't meet EPA reqs anymore thats why they stopped being imported. Dont know about the others.

Re: New peds

Oh and wildfire.

So that brings the total too

Solex OVER PRICED

Whizzer donno

Wildfire death trap if you can get it to run long enough to get past 20

Avanti, jury is out

Kinetic, probly your best bet

Hero Majestic, worth looking into

Baron Lazer, I hear they are almost total garbage.

Re: New peds

I think the fact of the matter is tomos has the market (if you can call that) cornered. It'll probably stay that way unless we see a mass import of cheap 4 stroke China built mopeds. There are quite a few models available but in order to sell them in the states they would have to be tested, epa approved and all that crap which would cost whoevers importing them mega bucks.

Re: New peds

I wonder if there is some loop hole where like you could buy the frames from one dude and the engines from one dude, open two shops next to each other, one selling "single speed bicycles with lights and shit with no engines" and next door have a store that "motorizes bicycles, that have lights and shit"

Re: New peds

technically you could build them ground up from custom fabricated stuff and apply for titles for each one as custom.

i could be wrong though.

Re: New peds

Sachs Madass. the other moped

Re: New peds

except the madass....isnt a moped!

Re: New peds

look into CF Moto or Linhai - these are exteremly good products

Re: New peds

cf moto and linhai are straight garbage. im not a big tomos fan, but i would buy a tomos over either of those any time.

Re: New peds

Ok it doesn't have to be a moped but just not chinese scooter.

Re: New peds

Seems like a good niche to enter would be a 'true' moped. Not a Puch/Tomos with auxilliary/emergency pedals to use just in case you are forced to mimic a bicycle in front of a cop, to cross a pedestrian crosswalk, etc. I mean, ferchisssake.. has anyone here seriously pedaled a moped for more than a city block in their lives? Even getting home with a non-starter, or out of gas, it's a whole lot less sweat to just get off an push the thing.

I've heard somewhere, was it a post here?.. that lots of people in someones' area were bolting little motors onto moutain bikes. Most new mountain bikes are already built more solidly than my 1980 Puch and with superior suspension. An ultralight four stroke, like offa my ryobi 26cc trimmer, on an ultralight mountain bike would seem to be a real crowd pleaser. It would be easy as hell to manufacture. A true pedal/motor hybrid. No?

Are any of this type actually manufactured presently?

Re: New peds

And I don't mean a little 'whizzer' motor grinding away at the back tire. A real integrated moped.

(howcum there's no edit funtion here?)

Re: New peds

See if you can import Derbi 50cc motorcycles. Or you could be an American Lifan dealer and sell 200cc dual purpose bikes, (chinese, but supposedly not crap and parts are available).
