Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

I'm pretty positive I'm going to do the custom bike in Black, and I'm leaning toward flat. Any thoughts? Would you go for gloss black or flat?

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

paint one half gloss one half flat..

that would be sick

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Depends...

If you're going to take the time to paint it right and disassemble the bike, go with gloss.

If you're going to do a shit job, paint it flat.

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

If your talking about painting your Sachs Balboa. Flat black with the chrome would be striking with a gloss black pin stripping. (Hey is the a strip or a trick of the light?)

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Yeah, not the green one though, I got a blue project bike that the original paint is fubarred and it ran like poop so I'm redoing the whole bike. So far I'm estimating $1150 for the whole thing! Yikes. lol

I like the flat black with black pinstriping idea, that might be cool, or maybe a raw pinstripe...

What I had intended on doing was leaving the tank raw with a clearcoat on top, fenders will stay chrome, entire frame flat black and I have a gianelli exhaust which is already flat black.

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Oh, and black rims too. I bought rims like this, I like them in black...

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Depends on your style for sure. Flat for my puch. Futuristic faux-rat bike. Gloss for my Batty, even though the inspiration is a 70 year old motorcycle, because hopefully he'll be my pretty boy. And always keep the chrome - pintos, sachs - that shit's pretty. That said, I'm about to rattlecan some chrome fenders - yeah!

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Keep it classy and go gloss

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

gloss unless its a rat then just rattle can black

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

I just did a rattle can post-apocalyptic rat-flat/chrome deal on a bike. I like it, but thats just because I couldn't afford to pay someone to do it and I have no painting equipment/skills past the fact that I was a graf kid growing up. Check attachment.

This is my black on black 2008 ST. I call it "Hells Whiskers", because it's that dangerous....

I would say somewhere around a semi gloss black with high gloss pinstripe. I have a '79 50v project that I am doing semi gloss black with high gloss red forks and pinstripe. I had even debated doing the cylinder in high temp black and stripping red on all of the tips of the fins.

if you're gonna do flat go with something besides black. play with some color schemes!! use the striping as accents, flat black is boring

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

liz if you could find a way to get your ped to me i could paint it a hell of alot cheaper than the price you were quoted, and i could do black with pearl effects, flat black. satin black. gloss black. etc.. etc... or whatever color your heart desires.

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Go flat with a low sheen semi gloss clear coat...nah, just flat

its been my experience that flat black is rarely done right.

Flatz is what I'd use. They are a single stage urethane in flat COLORS! Yeah, black too...probably gonna try and get some for my Magnum...good luck. Pinstripes on flat is sick!

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

it depends upon how well you space out the pattern, some of the newer krylon cans has a wide spray pattern, thus meaning a better coat, some however have the standard spray (about the size of a 50cent piece which unfortunately, makes the "striping effect"

Re: Color poll: Flat or Gloss?

Go with gloss. The problem with flat black, and flat paint in general, is that it can look great to begin with, but it doesn't hold up. It scratches easily, fades easily, and if you get oil on it, it leaved a permanent spot. I have an '01 Tomos Targa that I recently bought, and it is that ugly ( to me ) teal color. I just did a bunch of performance upgrades ( kit, carb, pipe, filter, and front sprocket ), finally have the kit broke in, and the jetting dialed in, I hit 50 (GPS) going down a slight hill. Anyway, I have already removed the front fender, reflectors on the forks, fairing, horn, square headlight, speedo and dash, all the handlebar switches, and wiring, the signals were missing when I got it, both side panels, the chain guard, luggage rack, and the flywheel cover. I have a round headlight for it, and intend to do a custom tail light, with the plate mounted above the tail light, Harley style. All the other parts get left off. The lights will be hardwired. I intend to paint it gloss black, with red wheels, and wide whitewall tires, have the seat redone tuck and roll style, put chrome handle bars on it, and maybe a few other chrome accents here and there. I may chrome the flywheel. I have decided to call it "Death Wish" and am going to have "Death Wish" stickers made for the tank, in white, with a red outline. Hoping it turns out as good as I think it will, because it is going to have about a $1500 price tag. Peace, Jerry.
