Just picked up my first ever true moped

I just got this amazing Batavus Starflight on CL. It fit into my camry after taking the front wheel and fender off. I can't wait to take it out, its going to be on my 3rd floor balcony until I move to Orlando. I bought it off the original owner who had it shipped from Germany. Paid $450!!

Nice bro.

Bukwheat of Orlando is into the straight outta Holland styling and has a top tank as well.

Wonder twins... ya you know.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Your moped has a diaper!

I want one, does that make it go faster?

Kitting out with the shitty pants!

Oh yeah!

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

The gas tank looks like it is not level. I do not recall the other Batavus top tanks looking like that, with the unlevel look. Maybe the owner, before you got it, did that to get all the fuel to drain to the fuel petcock opening.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Ive had other batavus top tanks that did that, lift the seat and put a shim between the tank and the frame pipe to make it look level.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Thats a nice looking bike. I hear bats are slow, but top tanks are cool. Ride it like 5 mph and look coooool

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

If you have one that runs good, it kind of sounds like an electric engine.

This makes me miss mine.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

that's so fresh. good find

I've been helping my GF with this one. Even though the rear wheel is really lumpy (needs retruing), it's still one of the most comfy rides... Almost magnum caliber. No shit.

The paint is Duplicolor, but it's not the gas resistant kind unfortunately. Won't hold up for very long. Your yellow is nice and fresh though. Keep it like that!

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Minty! Nice score, man, that thing is pretty.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Looks great Nice score!

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Yea, its pretty slow... it topped out at 31 yesterday. Yes the diaper is not stock, that is my only customization so far. I think the only thing I'd want to change for now is the pedals.. I'll search previous posts on the forums for replacements.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

looks nice but yeah check out that tank.

these bike are weird how the tank doesnt rest on a true cross-bar, but just sits on a brace bar that bolts in under the seat. get that thing bolted down.

i dont know if theyre all like this, but the one tbsBrian has is a step-through/top-tank convertable one. he got it with both tanks and you can swap them in like five minutes.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

Congrats dude. Great looking bike.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

31 is actually pretty fast for a bat. Most folks get like 25 on flats. It looks real purdy though.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

bats came in 20, 25 and 30 mph versions. the 30 mph ones usually get out and move pretty well (31-32). all of them are pretty doggy off the line.

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

I see I have alot of researching to do as far as carbs, muffler welding, clutch tuning etc. I'm just glad it runs for now, and all the researching will be just as rewarding. I hate to be lazy, but what spark plug should I get? I wasn't sure if mine had the correct one installed. Thanks!

Re: Just picked up my first ever true moped

I checked out my lopsided tank, and there is just a simple bar that bolts from the under seat compartment to the front of the frame using the same bolt that hold the gas tank on. I'm not sure if the leather strap going from the tank to the bar is stock, but wedging something in there should take care of the problem.

Is this the laura m48 engine?

Is this the laura m48 engine?

I wanted to figure out which spark plug to get. Thanks!

Re: Is this the laura m48 engine?

man i love it when people take good pictures of whats going on.

that all looks right, that strap seems to try to pull it up into the right position, maybe what you need is some kind of rubber piece, kind of like the magnum has, that goes between the tank and the bar.

ill take a look at the batavus we have like this tonight and get back to you.
