chain tension

i have a tomos st and every day the chain loses tension, i tighten it and by the next day its loose, any suggestions?

Re: chain tension

Maybe you are making it too tight to begin with. There should be some play.

Re: chain tension

there was some play in the begining and it just got really loose....

Re: chain tension

there should be like a half in of play both ways. maybe you need to buy a new chain. 20 bucks. done.

Re: chain tension

I run my chain with more play than that, because I usually carry myself (200 lbs.), and about 50 pounds worth of stuff, and on a Tomos, as the suspension compresses, the chain gets tighter. Make sure the axle is tight, and keep it soaked in PJ1 Black Lable chain lube. I replace my chains every 5000-6000 miles, which also happens to be about the average life of the stock Sava tires, and adjust and lube them on average every 500 miles. On a long trip, I carry an extra. I might be replacing my chains to soon, but I'm afraid of having one break, get caught in the rear wheel, and send me sliding down the road. I have an aversion to road rash. Peace, Jerry.
