Behold the Black Ciao!!

So a while back I scored a rolling Vespa Ciao Chassis and an old Puch of Craig's list for $50. I decided to do something with the Ciao because I had a lot of parts already and I have never worked on a Puch before. Here is what I started with:

And here is what I ended up with:

I put Grande forks and wheels on it. Welded in the brace and modified the frame to accept the rectangular seat post seat. I built a malossi 65cc engine for it but apparently I have a bad component in the magneto or I wired it wrong. It should be easy to fix.

Currently it has the polini 65cc motor from my orange ciao in it and I have malossi gears for it that I will install once the real motor is fixed and broken in. Other than my motor issue, I'm very happy with how this project is coming out. It's comfortable to ride but it's pretty damn loud. I guess a sporty looking ped should be loud though.

I'll give some more details when it's done done.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

sweet

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

i'm not usually a fan of the ciaos, but that one is rad. kind of reminds me of streethawk. just a little.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

more specs? 13mm carb? stock variator?

i always love a ciao. sad to see that pipe on so many bikes these days, but oh well. i don't think many of the ciaos rocking it can milk it's full potential.

awesome bike man!

13mm Carb

malossi clone air filter

pollini variator

(the belt slips on the malossi variator and I can't move the motor forward any further and clear the pipe with the pedals. We'll see how the Zippy belt works and maybe I can put the malossi variator back on)

Malossi belt

As for the exhaust, you run a moped shop and when you import a more suitable pipe and advertise that you have it, maybe I'll buy it.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

thats the only vespa pipe you could find? seems like a lot of pipe for either one of those kits.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

Dean actually likes that pipe

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

WATCH OUT DEAN HE'S GOT A GUN!

No, we all like that pipe. The snowflakes turned out nice on that setup too.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

Yeah, I sounded a bit more like a jerk than I intended. Sorry brothers. I'm saying that there are not a lot of performance pipes for vespa that let you keep the pedals and kickstand. I could have gotten the stomach looking pipe from zippy but for $5 more I got this Simmo pipe that looks freaking awesome.

bad ass!

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

i lost track of this tread! damn.

no no, i wasn't knocking the pipe. i have one for my 80cc vespa with a 21mm carb, which is more around the size that pipe was designed for. there are a few sweet pipes out there, i've just noticed people have been buying this one for ciaos because they look rad (and they do) and putting them on bikes that can't take advantage of it's awesome potential.

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

dean isnt that the case with all performance pipes?!

Re: Behold the Black Ciao!!

yeaah, for the most part. fashion over function!
