On my way home from work this morning my throttle cable broke, totally ruining my Bastille Day celebrations. Does anybody have a spare throttle cable? Are they brand specific? Anyone willing to help? I don't want to miss out on the ride Wednesday. I need to sleep for a few hours and then will check back on here. A lifetime supply of bagetts and red wine to whoever can help me.
Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cable
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i THINK i have a spare cable, and i also have some 5mm barrel clamps - whether those will fit your bike, i dont know.
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i probably have one or could make one up but i aint coming down there now
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
oh gosh corey i'm so sorry about your throttle. i hope you can fix it soon. did you at least make it home or did you have to push/pedal?
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
The cable snapped (ironically) in front of The Otherside Cafe, in the pouring rain. Luckily one of my co-workers was not far behind and let me ruin the back of her chevy tracker. i'm in tonight and have the next 2 days off so hopefully that'll be enough time to fix it up before the ride Wednesday. Anyone wanna meet up in Brighton tomorrow afternoon/evening?
How hard are these to change out?
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
Should be pretty easy fix..
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i guess i was due for a break down, i was starting to feel like i made commuters look solid
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
yeah fred its easy did you ever put a new one in your puch that broke 2 years ago
cory does yours have a slide throttle if it does you can just use a shifter cable off a bike
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i believe it does, i'm going back to bed this is the middle of the night for me but i'm gonna check later on
need to come to terms with riding the 57 in a few hours
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
I have new throttle cable on it, just not trusting the operation of the engine to be reliable. I have a 65cc kit on it and it has not been running very well
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
so me and joe just determined that it has a twist throttle (same as a Puch Maxi i guess), so i need a cable with the fittings on both ends. If anybody has anything that matches up I will gladly buy it, I have tomorrow and wednesday off so maybe we could meet up sometime before the ride on wednesday?
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
like i said, ive got a couple 5mm cable clamps if you only have the cable with a stop on one side.
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i think its got stops on both sides
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
I have a maxi throttle cable, but it only has the carb end on it.
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
pull the old one out of the bike
take off the top of the sqare bing
pull the cable thru
take the other side out of the throttle.
go to the bike shop and say "can i have one of these?"
Snake it back thu the houseing.
Ride.
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
i'm gonna try the bike shop tomorrow, if that don't work i'll let you guys know
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
sometimes i get bike cables and find that the end nubs are too big to fit in the slide on the throttle
I then carefully use a grinding wheel to shave off the excess metal until it is just the right size to fit in the slide
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
Yeah, I use a little rotary tool I got from harbor freight for 8 bucks to "resize" my nubs. Also if you still have both ends you could solder the nubs onto a new cable. I have done it a couple times and they haven't broke yet. Knock on wood.
Re: Calling on the kHz: broken sachs throttle cabl
yeah I have a bench grinder I can use at the garage I use to work at, it's also right next to farinas bike shop in Watertown sq
