do i need insurance in ohio for my moped?
yes
what? thats freaking nutz i live in camden south carolina i need no title no insurance no lisence but cops do love to pull over peds cause most are old drunks or young dope boys
yes.
registration is 30, then 15 to renew.
insurance should run you 30 a year.
compare this to.....
car registration: at least 100, 150 when you put all the title fees, taxes, etc etc
car insurance: mine is 400 a year. and that's pretty low.
Hey! my insurance is 60.00 a year, what company do you have?
whoops thanks i should probably get insurance than
i got pulled over the other night and the cop informed me that i have read the law wrong.
did this change recently?
Not to argue,
But you don't need insurance for a moped in ohio.
a scooter yes, but moped no.

he didnt want to hear it.

well this document says nothing about insurance, but when i tagged my 'ped i had to sign a document stating that i had insurance for it...
sorry the link did not post
yes you do need insurance. i have my registration form in front of me right now and the first bullet point below the information about the vehicle says this:
"In Ohio, it is illegal to drive any motor vehicle without insurance or other financial responsibility (FR) coverage"
also check out this link from the ohio BMV:
http://www.bmv.ohio.gov/misc/traffic_rules.htm
Read the "Miscellaneous Provisions" at the bottom. It says this:
"Liability Laws: Has compulsory/mandatory liability which prohibits the operation of a motor vehicle unless financial responsibility is maintained. Applicant for a motor vehicle registration or driver's license is required to sign a statement that he or she maintains financial responsibility. Proof of financial responsibility to be provided whenever a police officer issues a traffic ticket, at all vehicle inspection stops, upon every traffic court appearance upon written request by the BMV, and for every motor vehicle crash causing property damage in excess of $400 or personal injury or death.
*Proof of ability to respond in damages for liability, arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a motor vehicle must be obtained in the amounts of $12,500 because of bodily injury to or death of 1 person in any 1 accident, $25,000 because of bodily injury to or death of 2 or more persons in any 1 accident, and $7,500 because of injury to property of others in any 1 accident.
State has non-resident service of process law."
Although i would love to believe that you don't need it, I have yet to see an official document stating that mopeds are exempt from this. :(
No, actually you don't.
It's covered under home owners insurance, like a gulf cart.
But, I recommend paying the $50 to progressive.
Ryan
actually your moped has no coverage on the road under your parents homeowners policy. under ohio law if you got a ticket without insurance you would lose your license for 90 days and have to file and maintain an sr-22 for 3 years and pay 125 to the state. why do i know this? because unfortunately i have worked for an insurance agency going on 8 years now.
Monkey House!!!
Shit, so I'm illegal?
I wonder what it'll cost for two mopeds, a van and a car.
Hell, I'm only one man and I'll get a multi-car discount! I've gotta be setting some kind of record.
Just insured new Streetmate in Cleveland. $9.00/month, full coverage (theft, liability, medical) with Allstate. Can call in, and suspend coverage over winter months. This insurance is a "rider" on my motorcycle policy, that is $120.00/year. Liability insurance (or bond), is mandatory for mopeds in Ohio.
did you ever get your plate? they gav me such a hassle
