I had a question about the Tomberlin Sachs MadAss, can you buy these online?
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this moped?
Thanks!

Keep the Grande
its not a moped. they arent bad bikes but honestly for 2k you could buy a sick moped, kit it, have it powdercoated and get all sorts of custom shit done.
i have one that i put a 140cc lifan motor in it. i just wanted a cool, heavier, stable/reliable bike for commuting. its cool but i would sell it in a heartbeat for a decent offer. my mopeds will be pried from my cold dead hands.
buy a new Tomos, put a kit on it, a pipe, a bigger carb, and go faster, for less money.
I'm actually thinking about keeping the Grande, I've just put so much work into and still needs more work. I'm just a little overwhelmed I think cause I don't know how to fix the lights and all the wiring. If I could get that stuff fixed I would LOVE it!!! I love the look of the moped too!!
What dope in Germany told them that MadAss is a good name for anything?
It wasn't Germany. The Madass is Chinese. 100% Chinese. And it's no longer Tomberlin, some other company took it over after Tomberlin failed to market it. There is now a 125cc version. But it's still Chinese. If you want a reliable Chinese motorcycle, buy an American Lifan LF200GY-5 for under $1500, including shipping. It's even freeway legal. Peace, Jerry.
The Madass was designed & engineered by the Sachs motor company in Germany and all production was outsourced to China.
The Madass is now being imported to the US through Pierspeed and the 125 should be available for the 2009 model year.
I love my Madass. It has delivered exactly what I've expected a 50cc bike to deliver. The only mods I've done is to remove the speed limiter and changed the front sprocket. It runs an honest 35mph all day long and returns 103 mpg average. The price on them right now is $1899 at several of the dealerships here and also at MotoScoot in Millwaukee.
It is not a moped as it doesn't have pedals but depending on your states definition the automatic version does qualify.
In my opinion, the problem with some people on this site is they buy a machine designed, engineered and legislated to operate at 30 mph or less and immediately modify it to exceed those design requirements and put down anything that still delivers what it's supposed to.
The Madass is a solid machine with decent quality and if it's something that appeals to you then you owe it to yourself to check it out and make your own decision about it.

The grande lights shouldnt be that hard to fix. Do you have the wiring diagram for it?
anyone give step by step info regarding removal of speed limiter please
thanks
Hi Jaffa,
Contact the folks at http://www.ptownscooters.com/index.htm
They did a very good job with the instructions for how to do this. It's very simple and takes about 20 minutes. The hardest part is getting the covers off at the back of the tank. I thought I had downloaded it but can't find it right now.

Ptowns video is shut down so I can't watch how to remove the speed limiter. Would any of you be will to send me instructions or a diagram or the vid would be great. P.S. electrical stuff is my weak point. It's for Sachs madass 50cc Manuel clutch 2005.
Just like any other China built product, more are total trash than the 1/3-1/2 that are awesome. Chinese quality control is the ultimate oxymoron. The design of the Madass is great. It's the execuion, especially the electrics that fails. You will find people who swear by them (they were lucky to get a good one) and thse who say horrible things about them. They are mixed about 50/50 because that is about the ratio of ones put together correctly versus those thrown together. If you want to gamble with $2K go to the casino.
Did u figure out how to remove the speed limiter? If you did would you please send me the info on how to do that, please?
Thanks mowlawner.
anyone else want to put a Derbi motor on one ?
duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, keep the grande! I three so I may be a bit biased but come on! grade's are lit and the majority of parts are interchangeable with other vespa models. Take care of your grande. love it, hold it (as long as it doesn't crush you under the weight of it's tank-like existence), and ride it. Why spend 2k when you can sped progressive-ly way more than that for parts on a moped. *sarcasm heavily applied*
2009, doubt they have the Grande anymore
huh, how odd that I didn't even think to look at the posted date. Peculiar indeed.
