1976 moby unidentified part

It's a regular 50v, 1976 and bright yellow (not that the color matters, just sayin...). On the forks under the speedo assembly, where the horn goes on most puch bikes, there's a chunk of metal with cooling fins on it. It has a single wire leading to it, and it's about the size of a deck of cards. What could it be? My other moby, a 1980, doesn't have one.

Re: 1976 moby unidentified part

A diode, regulator or rectifier most likely.

Re: 1976 moby unidentified part

It is probably a Zener Diode. When the voltage in the system gets too high the diode dumps the excess voltage to the finned body.

Re: 1976 moby unidentified part

zener diode, normal mounted under the headlamp, on 6v models only. Thats why your 1980 doesnt have one.. its 12v

Whee, so that's to keep me from blowing headlamps then? Awesome....assuming it still works.
