I hate putting an engine together to find out that the gasket maker I used on the case halves requires a separate activator that they don't sell with the product, nor do they even mention is needed anywhere except in fine print on the back of the package. I woke up to find my bottom end still has uncured gasket maker along the edge of it. What kind of shitty gasket maker requires an activator? It's Bullshit. I should have just used HondaBond. The only place in town that sells it is closed sunday. Fuck you, Permatex! Fuck you Mid-American Motoplex for being closed on sunday.

shitty dude. permatex doesn't provide much info on it's packaging. you can find chem sheets for all their products on the internet, tells you useful stuff like cure time and gas/oil resistance.

What kind did you use? I didnt know they made a two part sealant. I've used the non-hardening stuff thats similar to hondabond/yamabond and it seems to work pretty well.

I used the Anaerobic Gasket maker, it looks like red loctite (and judging by the way my bolts are coming out, it just might be red loctite)

It sat overnight and has the same consistency as it did when it came out of the tube. I got me a tube of MotoSeal now, gonna do it up right.

I've been using Permatex #2 gasket sealer for 35 years, never had a problem. I like it a lot better than that blue silicone RTV crap, although it's not a gasket maker, just a sealer. Peace. Jerry.

I use gasket shallac. never had a problem yet. I rebuilt my korado motor 2 years ago and it's still running strong.

I like the Permatex Ultra Grey because you cannot see it in the seams.

my old mechanic friend used to swear by anerobic gasket makers. he was also jamacian.

The anerobic sealant is meant to harden in the absence of air. You are fine, do not take the motor apart, Permatex sealant works great, pay no attention to the activator nobody uses it.

aviation sealant works great between puch motor halves, its what i always use (advise from the guru) and available at any auto parts store.
its basically what come between them stock, but newer and better. resists, gas, oil, grease, water, and is designed for mating 2 machined surfaces together for up to 400F. never really dries. not silicone based.
for everything else i use only gaskets or spray on copper sealant or motogrey 1

permatex no 1, fast drying, hard setting, is the proper stuff for puch case halves, you want it to harden up and have a very thin film, it helps keep them stiff and together. RTV is only good for water pump gaskets.
i was just reading Bell's 2t tuning book and he reccomends permatex #3, which i might try, but i'm pretty sure, at least on puch and sachs cases with no gasket, you want the hard shit.

I used some non hardening teflon pipe sealant in a tube, the specs were in the ballpark for my application-500F
and 10,000 psi liquid, 2000 psi gas on my e50. Resists solvents, LP,refridgerants, diesel fuel,caustics, steam,and water. Seems to be holding up nicely.

I already split the cases, and yeah, it turned hard in the absence of air. My big concern with it, though, is it wasn't curing where it squeezed out and got inside the transmission/crankcase, and I don't want that shit mixing into my transmission fluid, clutch, or bearings and potentially hardening in a moving part while it's not moving. I got some MotoSeal in there now, which i'm much more comfortable with.
