Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

black twingle /

Every once in a while I see a Derbi, or an Aprilia 50cc motorcycle for sale. They're always far away, and I never want to trust that the previous owner did the proper break-in on their incredibly delicate-seeming engines.

Where would I find a retailer who could order something like this:

Not that I have the many thousands of dollars that would cost, but am I really supposed to believe that they're not even trying to sell them in the States?

The above image is from the Derbi site - they build many pretty things: link

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

yeah, those RS50s are sweet. Ive seen one on nearby Clist (atlanta) and a few nearby on ebay. Thats it

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

big scooter shops and some motorcycle shops have them best thing would be to use their websites to find local dealers.

p.s. is that the 08 model i hadnt seen it yet. fucking hot.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

I think thats just the naked version of the 07

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

I think we can all agree that Aprilia has never produced anything as fine looking as the Colibri.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

My local "powersports" SuperEmporium sells Aprilia and Derbi scooters, at way more than MSRP, but I've never seen anything like that there. Peace. Jerry.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Haha i posted this exact same question after seeing this in montreal

Love it.

Want one.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Aprilia makes it in a 125cc also, that is supposed to be HOT!

All of there GP experience is put into the small displacement bikes. Lightweight wheels and frames, good suspensions, great breaks.

It's reflected in the prices, but they are nice

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

what's the deal with these things? They are so interesting. What's the diff. between these and regular sport bikes? It's the engine size right? Are they cheaper? Do they sound loud as fuck? I checked the derbi website, that was sick, any other sites or info out there on them. Thanks.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

they sound amazing and look alot like other sport bikes.. they have the same brakes and cooling too, i'd say waay out of my price range to potentially crash but i wish they were cheaper.. btw my neighbor in ohio has one and you can go like 50mph and do wheelies on the front wheel......................... nuf said

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Thats what so super cool about em. They arent like little or anything. Look at the pic i posted of the one in montreal. Look at how far it is from the curb and then line up the blocks from that harley. Its not huge, but its no pocket bike.

I literally walked by that in montreal and said to my wife " wow , there is a cool 650 ive never seen before" Then went and looked at it and started jumping up and down like a excited 7 year old when i read "49cc" on the cylinder.

Its a mental bike . I talked to the owner, he loves it, was riding with his GF on the back , says with the 2 of em does 55 easy.

There are kits for em, you can jack em to 80cc easy with athena kits.

they are all water cooled, totally hip....

I want one.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

oh the dif is they are 2 stokes of course, they sound it, and perform like it.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

they are really really fun to ride.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Wowsers.

First thing I'd do is disable the oil injector.

hahahahahahaha

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

thats cause you live in a culture of disengagement, scorpion.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Thanks for the info guys....Andy....did you see my reply to your sidecar post? HaHaHaHa Excactly how much are we talking for one of these? New?

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

John Joedicke /

check with a local Piaggio/Vespa dealer about ordering one or the other. Piaggio is the parent company that hold these lines.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

3 grand?

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

"3 grand"

Well, no. They _should_ be something between three and four grand, but I get the impression that, since they're not regularly imported, the price gets jacked up (and up and up). Basically, a 50cc race-replica Aprilia is comparable in price to a brand-new Kawasaki Ninja 250 (and better), plus weird dealer nonsense.

My local Piaggio dealer is crap, but there is a BMW dealership that supposedly sells Aprilia scooters. I'll have to check with them.

Still, I think that Andrewhed probably answered this question best:

Q: Where do you get one of these?

A: Canada.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

thats what the guy said. I dont know that they are legally importable into the us technically, im sure the dealer debautury your describing is some kinda grey market nonsense.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

If you look at Derbi's website the only US dealer location they have is for Derbi USA in NYC. Anyone try to contact them?

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

this should get bumped because these bikes are so sweet. I know a guy who has a kitted one for sale for 2k...but too much money for something like that.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

as fas as i know i was told by an aprillia dealer they are not importing the rs50 and sr50 anymore

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

My god, that really is gorgeous.

You're in chatt. and I live in nashville, i'll be in chatt. next weekend, if youve got anything for sale i'd love to come see!

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

I thought the whole point of this thread is that 2000 dollars _isn't_ too much for something like this.

That said, I haven't made any progress on the "getting thousands of extra dollars to buy a 50cc Italian sport bike" front in the last few months.

+++

I have seen some of the local Derbis in action, though. Damn, but they are sweet, and built to last.

People say their bikes are "built to last" sometimes, but they don't then bother to use the stainless steel or aluminum parts that will actually make them that way.

Even this thing is probably fun to ride.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Myke w/ a Y (IRE) /

Derbis are not imported to the US. Good luck finding them.

Aprilia dealerships are in most major cities. The RS 2-stroke sportbikes haven't been imported for years, until '09 when Aprilia brought over the RS125 again, but as an "off road use only" model due to emmisions regulations. For approx $6000 it can be yours!

If you can find a nice used one, grab it. they're hard to find.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

there was a derbi gp1 at naults windham honda for years in the used section for like $1500 finally someone came and made an offer and got it for $500 cause they got sick of moving it around

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

I saw an RS50 a few months ago here in baltimore. It sounded very very nice... the dude winded it out in first and then disappeared. The local scooter shop/aprilia dealer basically talked me out of one of these a few years ago. he had it on the floor and I was drooling. I bet it is still there...

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

i just got back from the aprilia dealer down the street. i live in california and this guy said that they were never brought over to america and illegal for the street. i just checked craigslist and there are a dick load of them. what a dip shit.

Re: Where Do You Find Derbis and Aprilias?

Oft times salesmen no nothing about the product but of course are more than willing to divulge their 'knowledge'. I wouldn't mind having a RS but it is tempered with the realization of how much more they weigh than a moped. Like riding doubles. Balance that with the cost and you could rationalize spending a thousand strapping a Honda CR80 on a moped
