Rigid Kromag... need info.

Pablo Puchasso /

Hey. I got a rigid Kromag off of ebay last week... some of you may have seen my post about it. I stripped it down to just the frame this week and I realized I know very little about this bike other than it uses puch parts. What can people tell me about it or kromags in general?

Any info is much appreciated!! Thanks!

P.S. Why the hell can't I get the pedal crank off?

Re: Rigid Kromag... need info.

kromag is just like JC Penny and Sears. they licensed the re badging of certain puch frames. in this case a rigid suspension x40.

its funny, back in the day that was one of the cheapest mopeds you could buy. the bargain puch, but today we idealize them for their rigid light tube frame.

p.s. the pedal crank only comes off on one side. look on the left where the pedal arm meets the crank. there is a 10mm nut. take that off, spay wd40 on it threaded side facing up and then whack it with a hard piece of wood or strong rubber mallet. u dont want to use a normal hammer cause u might fuck up the threads.

Oh I WAY fucked up the threads already. Once I couldn't get it out I went to town. Good stress reliever... still no luck though. Now it's in my parents basement til I have the $$$ to properly do it up. Thanks again Harold... you're always comin' with the helpful posts. So this one is a freespirit rebranded... did they do other rigids? I know about the Maxi N obviously but I thought I had heard of rigid pintos/swingers too.

Peace. Jerry

Re: Rigid Kromag... need info.

hehe in that case get some penatrating oil and let that shit for 24-48 hours. they can get really really stuck sometimes. one time i actually had to cut it off.

yeah there are a couple kinds of rigids. they were all made as the cheaper versions of the original bike. sometimes even fully rigid. they all came with 1 speed low HP motors, cheap plastics, skinny spoke rims etc etc. basically for people who were too poor to afford a newport or a maxi. its the same thing in europe too. the maxi N frame is HELLA common over there but thats the frame they all use to race with.

The rigid models i am aware of in the US are the Maxi N which came in a couple colors with a couple different engines, the Swinger full rigid blue in color and the Kromag (freespirit) full rigid in blue.

its possible that there are pinto rigids and murray rigids out there but i have never seen them.

I thought the maxi n only came in Red. cool. So I know JC Penny and Sears are department stores... what was Kromag? A store also?

Hey dude, I got the acid for the tank if it has any rust. Give me a call. Are you back.

Re: Rigid Kromag... need info.

The two rigid kromags are the Sears FreeSpirit rigid and the JC Penney Swinger1, both use the same frame but have different fuel tanks. I believe they only were available in smurf blue.

Re: Rigid Kromag... need info.

My swinger1 is orange.

Re: Rigid Kromag... need info.

Kromag is an Austrian manufacturer
