Transmission speed clarification please

I have some Puch's. My Maxi and Pinto have what I would call a 2 speed tranny and my Magnum has what I would call a 3 speed tranny.

I never see any talk about a 3 speed tranny - only 1 speed and 2 speed. Could someone set me straight on my understanding on what people are referring to when they talk trannys?

The Maxi and Pinto -E50- have only 1 shift point so it has 2 gears in it. Is this referred to as a single speed tranny because it only shifts once? I would call it a 2 speed.

The Magnum- ZA50- has 2 shift points so it has 3 gears in it. Is this referred to as a two speed tranny because it shifts twice? I would call it a 3 speed.

Re: Transmission speed clarification please

no, your shift points determine your number of speeds not the number of gears.

Re: Transmission speed clarification please

Your E50's have one gear ratio and your Za50 has two. They both have automatic clutches though, so when the clutch finally engages it may sound like its "shifting".

Re: Transmission speed clarification please

how many speed = how many gear ratios u have

Re: Transmission speed clarification please

what you think is a shift point is actually your clutch fully engaging.

Re: Transmission speed clarification please

yeah, your e50 does not shift at all, and your za50 only shifts once.
