tecno boss/puch maxi

I have a stock 77 maxi sport, I've done all the 2 hp upgrades including drilling the stock exhaust and this got me 30-32 mph. I just installed a tecno boss and rejetted and I'm now running 27 mph . WHAT GIVES? Do these pipes suck or am I over looking somthing. I ran a wire into pipe and didnt feel any restrictions. Any body running this setup? Any help would be great!

Re: tecno boss/puch maxi

take off your airbox.

Re: tecno boss/puch maxi

Been there, done that! Oh ya I'm running a 62 main jet and my gears are 17/45. Seems like at 27 mph is'nt up to par!!!(32 w/stock pipe)

Re-install. I put on the Boss and gained 3 to 5 mph running ~33 now with just the pipe. Stock jet on bing.

No pipe sounds better either.

Check your exhaust gasket.

Re: tecno boss/puch maxi

error on your side jason looks like ive heard nothing but praises about these pipes

You want to ditch the stock airbox and rejet. REJET.

Also, your gearing might be a tad high for a stock cylinder.

Re: tecno boss/puch maxi

Thanks all, found an air leak between carb and intake, is there a seal that goes here? Also exhaust gasket is'nt looking very healthy, ordered new one. Good call on both, thanks again. Great site for old peds!

Re: tecno boss/puch maxi

I don't know if there was one there originally or not, but you can make one. You can try this, or you can do what I did: Buy a flat rubber washer that fits in the hole in your carb where it attaches to the intake. Use an exacto knife and cut the middle out of your washer so that the inner diameter on it is about the same size (maybe a little wider) than the hole the air/fuel flows through -- you want it big enough that it's not blocking air flow. Then put that washer into the carb and put the carb back on the intake. It's worked for me on two separate carbs and two separate intakes, although you should experiment with other methods and find out what works for you.
